Off Highway Vehicles (OHV)

Visitors to the Hiawatha National Forest will find a wide variety of roads and trails designated open for motorized use. In fact, over 2000 miles of Forest Road are open for motorized use.

Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM)s. -- Updated annually, the purpose of these US Forest Service maps is to help you determine which roads are open to which types of motorized vehicle use. (They contain a lot of detail, so can be difficult to use for navigation). The maps are updated annually, so remember to check for a new map before you hit the trail. You can view these maps online, but because they are very large you may prefer to download them onto your mobile device. The maps contain geospatial data, so if you download the maps onto your phone, they can be used in remote areas with an application like Avenza. For more information and links to the maps on Avenza, visit our Maps & Publications page.
