An outbreak of spruce beetles on the north end of the Okanogan-Wenatchee has been active since 2006, killing over three million Engelmann spruce trees. In parts of the Pasayten Wilderness it is hard to find a live mature spruce. Photo shows beetle-killed spruce in the foreground.

Dry Stewardship Project will restore approximately 548 acres of national forest land on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. A contract with the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation will complete all treatments to reduce fuel loadings and improve forest health. See linked announcement for more information.
