Molindero is a camping area.  In the past it was once the site of summer vacation cottages built in the 1930s and 1940s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.  In the 1960s one of the cottages was used by the University of Puerto Rico as a biological research station. These structures no longer exist.

While most other campgrounds in the Catalina District are closed in winter and open in summer, Molino Campground and Picnic Area has a season that is just the opposite. Because it is located lower on the slopes of the Santa Catalina Mountains, Molino is open during the late fall, winter, and early spring. Monarch Lake Trailhead is located in the Arapaho National Recreation Area and serves as a major access portal for Indian Peaks Wilderness. Facilities include a wilderness information cabin. This trailhead provides access to the Continental Divide Trail.

The elevation is 10,500 feet, and visitors should plan for cold temperatures at night. Some campsites are located near the south fork of the Little Arkansas River. Opening and closing dates are weather dependent.  

Monarch Pass is between Gunnison and Poncha Springs along U.S. Highway 50, which crosses the Continental Divide at 11,312 feet, offering sweeping vistas of central Colorado’s Sawatch Range. A large parking area, gift shop and gondola make this a popular rest stop. It also serves as the trailhead for the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, known locally as the Monarch Crest Trail.

This beautiful campground is set in awesome old growth forest and has a great swimming hole on the South Fork Skykomish River. There are 24 sites 4 are wheel chair accessible. Sites 9-14 are located near the railroad tracks and are popular with railroad enthusiasts. The nearness of Highway 2 doesn't diminish the charm of Money Creek and its appeal on a warm summer day.
