Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Salmon Creek Falls Campground

This 14 site campground is located in a beautiful, lush, old growth forest along Salmon Creek. The rocky gorge-like area creates two small beautiful waterfalls and several deep pools which reflect the clear blue-green waters. Wild thimbleberries and hazelnuts abound in the summer. This camp is a favorite recreation spot for local residents as well as some more distant travelers.

Salmon Falls Interpretive Site

Salmon Falls is located along the Little Naches Road, forest road 1900.  The Little Naches River cascades through large boulders to  much slower waters below where fish rest before swimming up the fish ladder.  CAMPING PROHIBITED  AT THIS SITE

Salmon La Sac Campground

This popular campground is located between the Cle Elum and Cooper Rivers, and offers 69 sites for both tent and RV camping. Some sites are pull through for larger vehicles. Prime location for hiking, fishing, swimming, and mountain biking in summer and early fall.  [Click image for information]

Salmon La Sac Sno-Park

Shared-use Sno-Park offering 38 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and 4 miles of groomed cross-country ski/snowshoe trails. Access to adjoining Red Mountain and Howson Creek voluntary non-motorized areas. Approximately 100 parking spaces. Salmon Meadows Campground

This campground was originally established in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and boasts a picnic gazebo built by the CCC as well as an old registration booth. Fourteen campsites will accommodate tents or trailers. Two sites have horse corrals. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring.

Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness

The steep, forested ridges and valleys of the 62,455-acre Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness are located 55 miles southeast of Portland and about 15 miles southeast of Sandy. While a few peaks such as Old Baldy, Salmon Butte and Huckleberry Mountain provide panoramic vistas, more typical of this area is the dense forest. Salo Lake

Salome Creek

Contains native fishes and stocked brown and rainbow trout. In the lower reaches native fish such as speckled dace, longfin dace and roundtail chub are found. There are also nonnative green sunfish. Arizona Game and Fish reports that the fishing area goes into the Salome Wilderness for a couple of miles. There is private property nearby -- please respect that property.
