Nature & Science

A variety of interpretive trails are found in the TNF.

  • Rock Creek Nature Trail (5 miles east of Nevada City) The corresponding brochure highlights and describes the ecosystems along the one-mile trail.  This is an easy hike with picnic tables nearby. Stop by the Forest Headquarters to pick up a brochure before.

  • Sierra Discovery Trail (on Bowman Road, east of Nevada City north of Hwy 20) was created by PG&E to explore the environment of Bear Valley.  The trail meanders through meadows, along the stream and across forested hills.   Interpretive signs, restrooms, and picnic tables are provided.

  • Glacier Meadow Trail (at Donner Summit at the eastbound I-80 rest stop) interprets the high elevation ecosystems in the Sierra Nevada.  Beautifully illustrated signs and scenery to match offer a wonderful short hike for Interstate travelers.
