The Forest Service follows NEPA regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Under this rule, Forest Service officials determine which proposed projects are shared for public input.
The agency no longer issues a schedule of proposed actions (SOPA) report. Below is the current list of proposed projects available for review—your opportunity to learn more, share feedback, and stay engaged in decisions that shape the future of our public lands.
Construction, installation, operation, use, and maintenance of buried fiber optic cable in the California Department of Transportation's right-of-way along Interstate 80 for approximately 43,653 feet.
Install or affix to existing structures two fire detection cameras and associated solar panels and batteries. Includes installation of four concrete anchors.
Implement a combination of treatments to construct fuel breaks and remove hazard trees across approximately 3,000 acres of NFS lands along 35 miles of roads throughout the YRRD to mitigate the risk of wildfire to protect nearby communities.
Mechanical thinning and fuels reduction on approximately 1,252 acres of National Forest System land adjacent to the community of Greene Acres in Sierra County, California.
The proposed action includes constructing 2.17 miles of new equestrian and pedestrian trail, upgrading 0.6 miles of existing user created trails to official system trails, and decommissioning 0.27 miles of user created trails. The project aims to reduce crowding and decrease user conflicts.
Tahoe NF will authorize a 0.5 mile pipeline encroachment due to the acquisition of Van Norden Meadow. The Humboldt-Toiyabe and Tahoe NFs will also approve a new operating plan for the entirety of the pipeline. Actions are administrative only.
Improve and restore forest health and resilience, reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire, protect and secure water supplies, and protect communities from the effects of high-severity wildfire on approximately 210,000 acres of National Forest Land. Multiple decisions to result from one EIS.
The installation of seven new #7 boxes (WLs 13, 17, 19, 23, 25, 29, and 31) and replacement of four existing #5 boxes with new #7 boxes (WLs 11, 15, 21, 27) will require 11 off-pavement excavations with 11 adjacent work areas.
Bear Yuba Land Trust would be hiring a contractor to construct a bridge over the Jordan Creek spillway and the Forest Service would be amending a trail easement with PG&E to include the new bridge and Pioneer Trail spur to the northeast.
Implement a combination of treatments to construct fuel breaks and remove hazard trees across approximately 3,000 acres of NFS lands along 35 miles of roads throughout the YRRD to mitigate the risk of wildfire to protect nearby communities.
Thinning and sanitation harvest, road actions, remove hazardous fuels, reforestation, control competing vegetation, restore water sources or infrastructure, and Project-specific amendments to the Forest Plan.
The Sierra pacific Power Company (NV Energy) proposes replacing three transmission lines (101, 102, 133) to modernize the electric design line along the existing alignment (right of way) and improve reliability within the electric power grid.
NV Energy proposes replacement of three electrical transmission lines (101, 102, and 133) with modernized electrical design line, using existing alignment (right of way) to significantly improve reliability within the electric power grid.
This project would implement a combination of treatments to construct fuel breaks and remove hazard trees across 3,000 acres of NFS lands along 50 miles of roads throughout the YRRD to mitigate the risk of wildfire to protect nearby communities.
Amend the Tahoe National Forest Land and Resources Management Plan to include plan components that specify where timber management activities can occur based on steeper slopes using tethered logging systems.
Amend Foresthill PUD's Special Use Permit for Sugar Pine Reservoir for installation of radial gates to increase water storage capacity (EIS). This will be a joint analysis with the state project to extend the PUD's water right permit (EIR).
T-Mobile is installing a generator on Hwy 89S below Goose Meadows CG to obtain backup power and provide cell service in the event of an emergency such as wildfire.
Designating over-snow vehicle (OSV) use on National Forest System roads and trails and in areas on National Forest System lands as allowed, restricted, or prohibited. Identifying where grooming for OSV use would be conducted
Installation of Fiber Optic cable with 500 feet of existing, buried powerline in the Calpine area and installation of Fiber Optic cable under 1/4 mile of CA State highway 267.
To provide a low-impact and novel recreation opportunity for non-motorized users, connecting the west slope to the east slope of the Sierra Nevada at Donner Summit.
increased strategic fuel break creation to establish safe corridors of travel, improve fire control opportunity, and create critical defense areas consistent with local community wildfire protection plans.
