Flathead National ForestFire Information Contact: (406)754-4620, fax (406) 754-4621 Current Status: Firefighters are making good progress on holding the fireline and constructing indirect line on the northern perimeter and eastern perimeter toward the wilderness boundary. A fire weather watch for thunderstorms and high winds is expected for today and into the evening. Structure protection and contingency planning are in place. There are 11 crews, 3 helicopters, 55 engines, 37 dozers, and miscellaneous overhead for a total of 611 personnel assigned to the incident. The lightning-caused Crazy Horse Fire began on August 8, 2003. Cooperating agencies: Montana Department of Natural Resources, Missoula County, Condon Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and National Park Service. Fire Activity Advisory: The following areas remain under a fire activity advisory. The fire still has the potential to threaten the communities and evacuations may be necessary in the future.
The following areas are open: All areas east of Highway 83 and Highway 83 Corridor. A Community Meeting will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 6:30 p.m. Swan Valley Elementary School Special Notice: School will be starting on September 2, 2003.
