Prevention

Wildfire Prevention's basic goal is to prevent human-caused fires, which can be accomplished by being aware of fire dangers in the area and potential fire restrictions.

For more information about fire restrictions, visit ND Response (North Dakota) or the South Dakota Grassland Fire Danger Map.

Pass It On

20260325-FS-SCM-004

Nearly 90 percent of wildfires nationwide are caused by people and could have been prevented. This season, help celebrate Smokey Bear’s message by protecting the lands you love. Secure tow chains, drown and stir campfires until they’re cold, and follow all local burn restrictions. When we take the right precautions, we all help keep our communities, wildlife, and landscapes safe. Only you can prevent wildfires. Pass it on.
