The prairie is full of amazing animals! Look for tiny, chatting prairie dogs, huge bison, and super-fast pronghorn running through the grass.  The plant life of the Dakota Prairie Grasslands features a diverse ecosystem, which is dominated by native grasses and forbs. Certain areas have woody plants, including trees and shrubs.

The U.S. Forest Service's Last of the Dinosaurs: Hell Creek Rocks booklet explores a 66–68 million-year-old fossil site across Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. It describes a lush, warm, watery world where famous dinosaurs like T-Rex lived. This vibrant ecosystem was suddenly wiped out by a massive asteroid impact.
