The Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) contains a list of proposed actions for Gila National Forest that will soon begin or are currently undergoing environmental analysis and documentation. It provides information so that you can become aware of and indicate your interest in specific proposals. We encourage your early and ongoing involvement in any proposals of interest to you.

Gila National Forest Projects

District proposes to install water system in Agua Fria Allotment including a pipeline, drinkers, and storage tanks

Conduce mineral exploration activities via bulk sampling for alluvial gold deposits (placer) over a period of one year

Widening and elevating approximately 150 feet of roadway and providing for road drainage along the Cooney Road (Forest Road 150A). The project is needed for public safety, for safe ingress/egress by private, public, and emergency vehicles.

Install water system for improved livestock grazing management. Includes two new wells, eight new storage tanks, 12 new drinkers, and 5.25 miles of above-ground black plastic pipeline to connect wells, tanks, and drinkers.

Proposal is to rehabilitate and maintain National Forest System Road (NFSR) 141 from Milepost 0.69 to 18.81.

Reissue existing special use permit for use of Prior pasture for maintaining a corral, storage building and 200 acre pasture at Prior Cabin for administrative purposes

Renew and combine several special use permits into one master permit for the operation and maintenance of facilities and infrastructure; access; and vegetation management.

Create a linear shaded fuelbreak consisting of mechanical and hand thinning followed by prescribed fire. Future maintenance would be required.

The proposed action is to create and maintain shaded fuelbreaks that modify or remove vegetation to promote safe and effective firefighting in and around the wildland urban interfaces of Silver City and Pinos Altos, NM

Project proposes the installation of a new single vault CXT toilet at the Signal Peak Lookout facility.

Proposal has multiple vegetation treatment types including mechanical thinning, hand thinning, herbicide application, and prescribed fire in order to protect the Wildland Urban Interface from wildfire.

Reissue a special use permit for utility cooridor access and maintenance

Reissue existing special use permit for construction and use of temporary pens and occupancy of NF land for translocation of the Mexican Gray Wolf.
