Homestead Overlook Dispersed Camping

Overview
The Homestead Overlook dispersed camping area is located about 26 miles south of Torrey, Utah, on Scenic Byway 12. This area is part of the Dixie National Forest, managed by the Fremont River Ranger District (Fishlake National Forest). The overlook treats you to breathtaking vistas from Capitol Reef to Navajo Mountain.

Natural Features
This dispersed camping area features mostly flat terrain with sparse vegetation. Nearby attractions include Capitol Reef National Park and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

Open 24 hours/day

  • Keep a Pack-In Pack-Out camp. Follow Leave No Trace guidelines
  • Use existing campsites when possible and always check fire restrictions before your trip

No Fees are required for this site.

  • Dogs must be leashed
  • Clean up dog waste and dispose of it properly.
  • Keep dogs from chasing, harassing, and disturbing wildlife, livestock or other visitors.
  • Yield to other hikers, horses, and other trail users by stepping off the trail and controlling your dog.

Directions

The Homestead Overlook is located 26.1 miles southeast of Torrey, Utah. Head east on UT-24 (main Street) for approximately 1 mile. Turn right (south) onto UT-12 for 26 miles. The Homestead Overlook will be on the left (east) side of the road.

  • Please stay on designated trails.
  • Use weed-free hay to prevent the spread of invasive plant species.
