Junior Ranger Program

A yellow Forest Service Junior Forest Ranger badge with a green border, green text, and a picture of Smokey Bear with a shovel in the center appears layered beneath a light blue Forest Service Junior Snow Ranger badge, which features a dark blue border, dark blue text, and a snow flake graphic.

The Junior Forest and Junior Snow Ranger programs use Forest Service science and practices to encourage children ages 7 through 13 to enjoy and appreciate nature.

Smokey Bear

A brown bear head appears with a gold ranger cap emblazoned with the name Smokey on it.

For more than eighty years, Smokey Bear has been reminding everyone that we all play a part in preventing human-caused wildland fires. Visit his website to learn more about wildland fire and what you can do to help.

Woodsy Owl

An owl flying through the air appears in a green cap with a red feather, a white shirt, and green pants held up by a brown belt with a gold buckle.

Woodsy Owl has been sharing the Forest Service's conservation message since September 15, 1971. Learn the four Rs of Recycling and others way to "Lend a hand — care for the land!"

Every Kid Outdoors

Every Kid Outdoors logo featuring a forest green frame with a grass line splitting the sphere in half. Above the grass is a gold background with blue birds flying above brown trees and the green silhouettes of three children: one jumping in the air, one doing a cartwheel and one standing on ground with arms up in a V shape.

The Every Kid Outdoors pass provides free access to students and their guests to most federally managed lands and waters — including national forest, parks, wildlife refuges and marine sanctuaries. The pass is valid for the entire school year and grants free entry for fourth graders and three accompanying adults at more than 2,000 federally managed sites. The card also entitles families of the fourth grader to a free Christmas tree permit.
