Safety and Outdoor Ethics

The Sawtooth National Forest offers great outdoor experiences that can turn not-so-great if you don't properly plan and prepare. We encourage visitors to practice Leave No Trace Principles.

Enjoy the Outdoors

A man in a navy puffy jacket, black snow pants, and snowshoes stand on the bank of a river in winter. Snow covered the ground and dusts all the trees. In the backdrop, the jagged peaks of the Sawtooth Mountains jut up into the clear light blue sky.

Following a few best practices will go a long way toward an enjoyable Forest experience

Stay Safe

A hand reached for a small red first aid pouch, which is sitting atop fabric in the trunk of a car.

Preparing for potential threats on the Forest can determine whether nature if a friend or a foe.

Respect Wildlife

Minimizing human-wildlife conflict maximizes species populations, providing more opportunities for wildlife viewing

Leave No Trace

A dirt trail, with several rocks cropping out of it, winds through a forest of conifer trees. Boulder-sized rocks lay on either side of the trail.

Leaving the natural world as we found it affords others the same privilege of experiencing it as we have.
