Forest Management
Caring for the land on the Sawtooth National Forest means working to maintain, enhance, and restore healthy forest conditions.
The Sawtooth Timber and Silviculture Program staff work to achieve three main objectives:
- improving forest health,
- reducing fuels, and
- restoring trees to areas where they have historically grown.
Our foresters and forestry technicians collaborate with other specialists to accomplish these objectives through use of a variety of tools, including:
- commercial timber sales,
- non-commercial or pre-commercial thinning contracts,
- applications of pheromone treatments to ward off insect infestations,
- monitoring with Forest Health Protection for forest health risks, and
- offering forest products, like firewood or Christmas tree permits.
