Devils Lake/South Sister Trailhead

Provides hiker and horse access to Three Sisters Wilderness via:

  • South Sister Climber Trail
  • Devils Lake Trail or Wickiup Plains Trail

These trails enter the Three Sisters Wilderness shortly after leaving the trailhead. Wilderness permits are required for both day use and overnight stays from this trailhead. See "Permit Info" below for more details.

A non-wilderness trail leads through the forest to Quinn Meadow Horse Camp, passing some interesting lava formations. Facilities are available for equestrians. 

Parking area is near Devils Lake. There is a small, walk-in campground at this trailhead with ten sites. There is no fee for this campground, but a recreation pass is required for parking.

Recreation Fee Site: A recreation pass is required. The recreation fee is $5 per vehicle per day or may be covered by a recreation pass. Passes can be purchased at a local Forest Service office or through a vendor.

General Information

Day use only; no overnight camping allowed

Day and Overnight visitors: Central Cascades Wilderness Permit required between June 15 and October 15; reserve at Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777.

Passes can be purchased at a local Forest Service office or through a vendor.

  • Wilderness restrictions apply in the Three Sisters Wilderness
  • Maps of areas where special restrictions apply:
  • Motorized and mechanical equipment (including bicycles and drones) are prohibited in the Wilderness
  • Groups must be under 12 people and 12 head of stock
  • Build campfires at least 100 feet away from water
  • Pack in / Pack out!
  • “Take only pictures, leave only footprints” — please refrain from cutting, damaging, or gathering vegetation or other forest items (e.g. rocks, artifacts, etc.)
  • Please bury human waste 6-8 inches deep and at least 200 feet away from water

$5 per vehicle per day
$30 per annual
