Cougar Crossing Campground

Located on the confluence of the South Fork of the McKenzie River and the south end of Cougar Reservoir, Cougar Crossing is open year round and offers 11 sites that can accommodate either RV or tent camping. Vault toilets are provided. There is firewood for sale. The interior roads and spurs are gravel. There is no drinking water. It is the closest campground to Terwilliger Hot Springs.

Current Conditions: 5/5/21: A rockslide was reported on FS Road 19 (Aufderheide Drive) near McKenzie Bridge at mile post 52. Rocks are currently obstructing the road and FS 19 is completely blocked off from thru traffic. FS 19 from the Westfir is accessible. Please ensure you have enough fuel to return and adequate provisions before journeying to campgrounds. View closure order and maps.
Reservations: Reservations available 4/30/21 through 09/25/21. Reserve online at or phone 1.877.444.6777. Over half the campsites are available for advance reservation via The remainder are first come first serve.

  • Extra Vehicle - $8 per vehicle, per night
  • Day Use - $8 per vehicle, per day
May have reduced service and lower rates in off months.

Restrictions: Camping is restricted to developed campgrounds in the Cougar Recreation Area.

General Information


From Blue River, OR, travel 4 miles east on Highway 126 to Aufderheide Drive (Forest Road 19)*. Proceed south on Aufderheide Drive, taking a right at the Y and climbing to the top of Cougar Reservoir. Continue on Aufderheide Drive south 5 miles to find Cougar Crossing Campground where the South Fork of the McKenzie River pours into Cougar Reservoir.

*Forest Service Rd 19 is not maintained for snow and ice in the winter
