Flathead National ForestFire Information Contact: (406)754-4620, fax (406) 754-4621 Current Status: A red flag warning last evening resulted in rainfall over the fire resulting in one half inch on the mountaintops and one-tenth inch in the valley. Increased relative humidity will limit fire activity and assist firefighting efforts today. The rain alone won’t extinguish fire burning under timber canopy, in deep duff and heavy fuels. Structure protection and contingency planning are still in place. Firefighting efforts will continue to focus on the north region of the fire with improved fire line construction inside the Mission Mountains Wilderness, and mopping up interior hot spots which will be supported by water dropping helicopters. The lightning-caused Crazy Horse Fire began on August 10th, 2003. Currently, there are 585 personnel assigned to the incident. Cooperating agencies: Montana Department of Natural Resources, Missoula County, Condon Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and National Park Service.
