Enjoy the beauty of North Dakota’s Badlands on the Sunset Trail Loop. This two-mile loop is perfect for hiking, biking, or running, and gives you wide views, striking scenery, and the quiet charm of the open prairie. The trail links up with parts of the Long X and Maah Daah Hey trails, and you might spot wildlife like deer, bighorn sheep, coyotes, and many kinds of birds. Whether you’re looking for adventure or a peaceful break, this trail is a great way to experience the Badlands.

Seasonal water is available at the nearby CCC Campground, with pumps turned on from spring through late fall and shut off during winter.
All trails are intended for non-motorized travel only. Therefore, all motorized vehicles, including E-bikes, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), utility terrain vehicles (UTVs), and snowmobiles, are prohibited.

Trailhead/Starting Points
The Sunset Trail Loop in the Little Missouri National Grasslands features two main access points, both located at the CCC Campground. It is a 2.1-mile loop connected to the Long X and Maah Daah Hey trails
