74 Mountain #153 Trailhead

Trailhead for Mogollon Trail #153 and access into the southwestern portion of the Gila Wilderness. Nine (9) miles of this trail, from trailhead to junction with Trail Canyon Trail was logged in the summer of 2017. This trail is a great access to the wilderness from Gila/Cliff region. It provides access to Mogollon Baldy. Mogollon Creek is still a lush place to hike despite some flooding.

Year-round

Parking is available overnight; occupancy and use at the trailhead is dawn to dusk.

No pass required

Permits are required for commercial or organized uses.

Please do not camp in trailhead parking areas. All stock feed brought onto the Gila National Forest must be certified weed free.

No fees are required for this site

Pets must be leashed in the trailhead

Please contact the Gila National Forest Supervisors Office at 575-388-8201 for information about outfitters and guides who are authorized to operate on the forest.

Directions

From U.S. Highway 180 near Aldo Leopold Vista Picnic Area, between mileposts 62 and 63, turn west onto Sacaton Road. Proceed 16.5 miles to Catron County Road 2-6, the Nine-Sixteen Road. Turn east onto Nine-Sixteen Road and proceed approximately 6 miles to the trailhead
