Piñon Campground

This is a nice, quiet and clean campground nestled among piñon and juniper trees.

The camp sites are nestled among mature piñon and juniper trees. It is tranquil and undiscovered with a few sites having a view of Quemado Lake. The campground is comprised of a family camping loop (east side) and a group camping loop (west side). The dump station is open when the campground is open and the fee for use of the dump station is $15 per use.

Water is typically turned off October 1 for the season. Campground is closed for the season until spring 2025

Closest Stores:
Quemado is 21 miles from the campground. AG Country Propane (open M-F 8:00 a.m. - 5 p.m.) sells fishing licenses.

Fee payment by self-service fee envelope or visit campground host.

"America the Beautiful" Interagency Senior and Access Passes are honored for the tent site area only for 50% discount.

Permits are required for commercial or organized uses.

  • There is a 14 day stay limit for all campgrounds on the Gila National Forest.
  • Fires permitted only in fire rings provided.
  • All pets must be on leash at all times in the campground.
  • OHV/ATV use is prohibited in the recreation area
  • Horses and horse camping are prohibited in the campground

Site fees are $15.00 fee per night, per site, and the dump fee is $15 per use.  "America the Beautiful" Interagency Senior and Access Passes are honored for the tent site area only for 50% discount off camping fees.

Pets must be leashed in the campground

Please contact the Gila National Forest Supervisors Office at 575-388-8201 for information about outfitters and guides who are authorized to operate on the forest.

Directions

Just west of Quemado, take New Mexico Highway 32 south approximately 14 miles to Quemado Lake / New Mexico Highway 103 sign. Turn left onto New Mexico Highway 103 and go 4 miles to Forest Road 13. Continue straight on Forest Road 13 for 1.4 miles to Pinon Campground. Turn left into campground.

Travel Considerations

The Quemado RD recommends that if a winter storm is coming that visitors vacate the campground or risk being stuck. For more information, please call 575-773-4678.
