South Fork Mineral Creek #798 Trailhead

Trailhead for South Fork Mineral Creek Trail #798. First two (2) miles were logged summer 2017.

General Information

Parking is available overnight; occupancy and use at the trailhead is dawn to dusk.

No pass required

Permits are required for commercial or organized uses.

 

Please do not camp in trailhead parking areas. All stock feed brought onto the Gila National Forest must be certified weed free.

No fees are required for this site

Pets must be leashed in the trailhead

Please contact the Gila National Forest Supervisors Office at 575-388-8201 for information about outfitters and guides who are authorized to operate on the forest.

Directions

Trailhead is located along New Mexico Highway 159 (Bursum Road). From Glenwood, travel 3.4 miles west on U.S. Highway 180 to New Mexico Highway 159 (Bursum Road). Turn right (east) and proceed approximately 23.7 miles to the trailhead. It is located approximately 3.3 miles west of the upper winter closure gate. Alternate directions would access the upper end of Bursum Road from Willow Creek Campground.

Travel Considerations

Alert, NM 159 eastbound and westbound from mile marker 4, 4 miles east of US 180 to mile marker 25, Willow Creek Campground.

NM 159 between milepost 3 to milepost 9.5 has STEEP GRADES AND NUMEROUS TIGHT TURNS. Trucks without a retarder break and/or longer that 45 feet in length are PROHIBITED on this section on NM 159, also required is to utilize a pilot vehicle for lengths exceeding 30 feet. Consider using an alternate route. THIS IS A PERMANENT ALERT.
