Lilley Park Trail #164

The 25.2-mile (one way) Lilley Park Trail #164 provides access from Little Bear Trail #729 with Turkeyfeather Pass and West Fork Trail #151, following a high-country route between the west and middle forks of the Gila River. Trail #164 turns west off of Trail #729 at the head of Little Bear Canyon, contouring across slopes and climbing to the top of the West Fork/Middle Fork Gila River divide.

This trail is located entirely within the Gila Wilderness, so please remember to follow all wilderness ethics guidelines. Make sure to Leave No Trace.

From the southern trail terminus, the nearest services are 45 miles south in Silver City, New Mexico. From the northern terminus, the nearest services are in Reserve, New Mexico, 40 miles north.

This trail is designated for non-motorized and non-mechanized uses.

All stock feed brought onto the Gila National Forest must be certified weed free.

Directions

The southern trailhead is at the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument 1.5 miles from the Visitor Center. Follow NM 15 north from Silver City to the Cliff Dwellings. The travel time is 1 hour, 45 min.

The second trail head is at Willow Creek on the north wilderness boundary. It may not be accessible in the early spring if forest roads are closed due to snow. From the town of Reserve follow Forest Road 141 then FR 28 to Willow Creek. Travel time about 1hour, 45 minutes. From the town of Glenwood follow NM 159 to Willow Creek. This road is not recommended for horse trailers. Travel time about 1 hour, 30 minutes. Check with the Reserve or Glenwood Ranger Districts for more information.
