Big Flat Guard Station Cabin
Overview
The Big Flat Guard Station is a rustic three-room cabin located on the Fishlake National Forest about 25 miles east of Beaver, UT. The ranger station was built in 1908 and provides a great base camp for group gatherings and recreation activities. At an elevation of 10,000 feet summer days are warm, and evenings are quite cool.
Facilities
- The site can accommodate a maximum of 50 people; however, the building contains only 3 sets of bunk beds, providing sleeping arrangements for 7 individuals indoors.
- The cabin is equipped with a kitchen table and chairs, a wood stove, a propane single burner stove, and countertop. There is currently no water available on-site. Dishes, utensils and cooking pans are supplied. Towels, bedding, soap, water and any other additional supplies will need to be brought in with guests.
- A vault toilet bathroom is located adjacent to the cabin, along with a fire pit, benches, and a picnic table.
- Some lighting is available in the cabin powered by solar panels. Flashlights or lanterns are recommended for evening hours.
- During the winter months, firewood is stored in the woodshed located near the cabin. Firewood might not always be provided or available during the summer months, so guests should prepare accordingly.

General Information
During the 'shoulder season' from November - June, access to the site by car or truck may be restricted due to road closures from snow and winter conditions. Guests will need to be prepared to reach the cabin using snowmobiles, snowshoes, or cross-country skis.
Conditions can vary annually; however, visitors can typically expect snow and winter-like conditions to persist into the mid-summer months because of the high elevation. It is recommended that guests check the weather conditions before finalizing their travel plans to ensure proper preparation for their visit.
Check-in time is 2:00 pm. Check-out time is 11:00 am.

- No pets are allowed in the Guard Station.
- No smoking is allowed in the Guard Station.
- No garbage service is available; guests must be prepared to pack out all garbage and trash. Dumpsters are available at the base of Beaver Canyon to discard bagged trash.
- Guests are kindly asked to maintain cleanliness while enjoying their stay and to leave the facility in even better condition than upon arrival. Please note that cleaning services are not provided.
- No carving or drawing on trees.
- Barn facilities and pastures are off limits to the public - These areas are for administrative use only.
- Do not open any gates or get in the pastures with Forest Service horses when they are present.
- Discharging a firearm or any other implement capable of taking human life, causing injury, or damaging property is not allowed within 150 yards of any campsite, building, lake, trail, parking or picnic area. This includes paintball guns, sling shots and archery equipment.r

No dogs or pets are allowed inside the guard station. Dogs are allowed outside of the cabin under the following conditions:
- Pets must be leashed at all times within this recreation area. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors and to protect wildlife and livestock.
- Clean up dog waste and dispose of it properly. All garbage must be packed out.
- Keep dogs from chasing, harassing, and disturbing wildlife, livestock or other visitors.

Directions
The Big Flat Guard Station is located approximately 24 miles east of Beaver, Utah. From Beaver, Utah take Hwy-153 east for about 24 miles. Turn right onto FR-652 into the site. *A locked gate is located at the entrance to the cabin. A lock combination code will be emailed with your booking confirmation from Recreation.Gov prior to check-in.
From Junction, Utah travel west 6 miles on paved UT-153 then approximately another 11 miles on dirt road to reach the Big Flat Guard Station.

Travel Considerations
Hwy-153 is paved to Puffer Lake. From there, the road turns to gravel. Portions of Hwy-153 are narrow with minimal turnouts. Please be courteous of other road users by driving slowly and pulling off to let larger trailers pass in narrow sections when able. Highway 153 (SR-153) is a state road, maintained by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). Portions of the road are closed seasonally due to snow.

A gravel parking area is available and limited to 6 vehicles. *The gravel driveway loop is to remain unblocked and passable for administrative access at all times
There is a concrete pad located on the north side of the cabin that can accommodate one trailer, RV or 2-3 small tents. No RV hookups are available.
