Gooseberry Campground

Overview

Gooseberry Campground is 18 miles from Salina, Utah. This campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not accepted.

Facilities

There are 13 camp sites, 2 of those are pull through spots, and 1 is a group area with a pavilion. The group site #14 has 2 picnic tables and a campfire ring. There are 2 vault toilets and potable water spigots spread throughout the campground. Please note that this campground does not offer electrical, water or sewer site hookups.

Natural Features

Gooseberry is situated in the Gooseberry drainage south of Interstate 70 in central Utah at an approximate elevation of 8,000 feet. Dense stands of aspen trees forest the area, offering shade and beautiful autumn color during the fall.

Recreation

Popular activities in the area include ATV/UTV riding, fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding and wildlife watching. The Great Western Trail runs nearby; two trailheads can be easily accessed near the site.

Reservations

General Information

Gooseberry offers 13 single-family camp sites and one 25-person group site, which are available on a first come, first served basis.  The campground includes a historic gazebo and vault toilets as well as a pavilion with a grill, water and picnic tables.

 

Water is on June to mid-September, dry camping in shoulder months as access allows.

Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

-Please refrain from cutting or breaking branches around this campsite. Kindly bring your own firewood to help preserve the natural environment and camping experience.

-OHVs are allowed only to access the adjacent trail system, not for general riding within the campground.

-All OHVs are required to be registered and display a permit or sticker for riding on public lands. Obey all state and federal OHV laws and regulations.

-Quiet time is between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am mountain time. 

-Camping stay limit is 16 days, 15 nights. After that you must relocate at least 5 road miles away if you wish to continue camping.

-Follow local fire restrictions and fully extinguish campfires before leaving.

-Pack out all trash and follow leave no trace principles.

-Store food properly in bear-proof containers.

-Park only in designated camp sites (not vegetation)

-Comply with signs and barriers and leave gates as you found them.

-Discharging a firearm of any kind is prohibited.

-Fireworks are prohibited.

Overnight Use:
Single Site: $20/night.
Group Site (#14): $40/night.
Interagency Senior/Access Recreation Passes provide a 50% discount to Single Campsites ONLY.

This Campground operates on first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not accepted. A drop box is available in campground to pay camping fees.

This campground on the Fishlake National Forest is managed by High Country Recreation under the terms and conditions of a concession permit that was issued to them by the Forest Service in 2020.

-Pets must be leashed at all times within this recreation area. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors and to protect wildlife.

-Clean up dog waste and dispose of it properly.

-Keep dogs from chasing, harassing, and disturbing wildlife or other visitors.

-Yield to other hikers, horses, and other trail users by stepping off the trail and controlling your dog.

Directions

Gooseberry Campground is approximately 18 miles southeast of Salina Utah. In Salina at the junction of Main Street and State Street, head south on State Street for approximately twp miles until you reach I-70. Turn left (east) onto I-70 east-bound from Salina, for approximately 6.5 miles. Exit I-70 at Gooseberry Road (Exit 63), and then turn right (south) on the Gooseberry Road (County Road #640), a two-lane paved road, for about 10 miles. The campground is on the right side, watch for signs.

Please do not connect hoses to water faucets

Help us maintain a sanitary drinking water supply by refraining from connecting hoses to drinking water faucets. These types of connections create potential pathways for contaminates to enter the system. Water faucets are provided throughout this campground.
