Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Mill Lake

Mill Creek lies at about 5,900 feet in elevation and encompasses 5 acres. The lake lies in a beautiful setting surrounded by willows, alders and manzanitas. Impressive steep granite cliffs hold the southeast portion of the lake.

Mill Pond Flume Trail #520 is a 0.6 mile interpretive loop trail that showcases several historic structures, including a cabin and the remains of the flume, giving visitors a glimpse into the history of the area.  Learn about local history along this loop trail. Miller Canyon OHV Road 2N37

The Miller Canyon OHV Road 2N37 travels 5 miles from the Miller Canyon OHV Trailering Site to the junction of Pilot Rock OHV Road 2N33. Important Note: Non-street legal vehicles are not permitted west of the Miller Canyon Trailering Site (towards Lake Silverwood) all roads diverting to the south (right if you are heading up canyon) are restricted to street legal vehicles only.

Miller Canyon OHV Staging Area

The Miller Canyon OHV Staging Area is located just east of Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area on Forest Road 2N37 off Highway 138. There is a vault toilet and a couple of picnic tables at the staging area along with ample parking and informational signs.

Miller Canyon Perimeter Trailhead

The Miller Canyon Perimeter Trailhead is a developed parking area with an outhouse and trash service. This large parking area can accommodate horse trailers. There is no fee or pass required to park at this location. This is the trailhead for Perimeter Trail #138, Perimeter Trail #138B, Lower Miller Canyon Trail #172.

Miller Creek Lake Recreation Area

Miller Creek Lake Recreation Area is a great place for family activities. This 17-acre lake was originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. It was aquired by the U.S. Forest Service in 1998 in a joint partnership with the Jones County Georgia Board of Commissioners, Georgia DNR. Miller Divide #1930

This trail accesses some of the finest deer and elk habitat in the country. It also provides scenic views of the Fryingpan Valley and Rocky Fork Creek. The first part of the trail is steep but flattens out on top with a short downhill to Rocky Fork Creek. It is hard to follow on top.

The Miller Gulch Trailhead is located in the western portion of the Buffalo Creek Recreation Area. The trailhead provides access to the Miller Gulch Trail (#730) and other connecting segments. This trailhead is in an active timber sale area.

Miller Lake Dispersed Campground

This small campground no longer provides designated camp sites. It has become a dispersed camping area, meaning amenities are no longer offered. There is fishing access at Miller Lake and fly fishing for trout. 16 day stay limit.

Miller Lake Trailhead

A road bridge that spanned Sturgis Fork was removed in the spring of 2006. This bridge was located approximately 3.8 miles from the Miller Lake trailhead. Funding for a replacement bridge is uncertain. As a result, access to the old trailhead is now by foot, horseback, motorized bike, or ATV. Million Reservoir is a small impoundment near South Fork. It is regularly stocked with catchable Rainbow Trout during the summer providing good convenient fishing close to town. It consists of a parking lot, restroom, trail to and around the shore.
