Dear USDA,

Congratulations on completing Fiscal Year 2024. It takes teamwork and long hours to serve as many people as possible—all while dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s before time runs out. Thank you for your commitment to the USDA Mission.

As you reflect on all you’ve been able to accomplish this fiscal year, please also take time to think about your colleagues who have helped make it possible.  There are three great opportunities to nominate them in recognition of their service.

  • USDA’s 74th Honor Awards Program recognizes the accomplishments of our great USDA employees.  Applications are due by Friday, Oct. 25, 2024. Recognition categories are framed under the USDA’s six strategic goals.  This link has all of the details and this is the link to the official nomination form. See OneUSDA for the full guidance

  • OCIO IMPACT Awards recognize noteworthy Information Technology accomplishments that contribute to the advancement of USDA's strategic goals, mission, objectives, and overall customer service excellence. Eight award categories are aligned with USDA’s IT Strategic Plan. Nominations are due by Friday, Oct. 11. Here’s a link to the nomination form, and find complete details on OneUSDA.

  • 2025 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals recognize civil servants from across all federal agencies. The “Sammies,” as they are affectionately called, are a prestigious institution for a reason: they shine a spotlight on unsung heroes and reinforce the profound good we can do in people’s lives through federal service. Applications are due Friday, Nov. 29. Here’s a link to the nomination form as well as FAQs, tips and information on eligibility.

So please, take some time to honor USDA’s greats! And, thanks as always for all you do.

My very best,
Xoch

Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small
