Downhill skiing, Nordic skiing, and snowmobiling are popular winter activities on the Sawtooth National Forest
Skiing/Snowboarding
The Sawtooth National Forest is home to four permitted ski resorts:
- Sun Valley Resort on the Ketchum Ranger District,
- Soldier Mountain on the Fairfield Ranger District,
- Pomerelle Mountain Resort on the Minidoka Ranger District, and
- Magic Mountain Ski Resort on the Minidoka Ranger District.
Ski with a Ranger programs are offered during the winter months at Sun Valley Resort. Contact the Ketchum Ranger District for more information.
Sledding/Tubing
Tubing is available at Magic Mountain Ski Resort.
Snowmobiling
The Sawtooth National Forest partners with several organizations to provide groomed snowmobile trails on National Forest System lands. The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreations provides an interactive snowmobile trails map for the latest grooming updates.
XC Skiing/Snowshoeing
Galena Lodge, a permitted resort operated by the Blaine County Recreation District on the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, offers Nordic skiing and snowshoeing trails. The Blaine County Recreation District also provides groomed Nordic skiing and snowshoe trails in the Wood River Valley. Grooming updates and condition reports are posted to Winter Traillink.
Snowshoe with a Ranger programs are offered at Galena Lodge during the winter months. Contact the Sawtooth National Recreation Area offices for more information.
In the South Hills, the High Desert Nordic Association grooms Nordic skiing trails and organizes group outings. Grooming updates and group ski acitvities are posted to their website.
