IMPORTANT: Landsat data outage alert
WASHINGTON, DC—Please be advised of an important upcoming service outage involving a partner website, USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) that hosts Landsat data. Numerous fire and land management applications are expected to be briefly affected. This includes EGP, WFDSS, LANDFIRE, NIROPS, IFTDSS, Predictive Services Fire Outlooks, the Incident Management Situation Report and other fire statistics, and many others.
The system maintenance being done on this site will cause outages on:
- July 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST
- July 16 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. CST
Backup systems are in place to help reduce interruptions to operations. Most affected websites will display a banner as a reminder of these temporary outages; however, some users may receive a “404 Error” message while trying to access the affected fire applications during these times.
For additional information from USGS, including a list of programs affected, please visit: www.usgs.gov/landsat-missions/news/upcoming-maintenance-interrupt-landsat-data-processing-and-distribution.
Please note that you may receive conflicting information regarding this outage from EROS and USGS. Those messages are directed to the larger customer base that they serve. The information in this communication is the most recent information related to the impacts to the Interagency Fire Community.
Lastly, a special thank you to everyone who has worked so diligently to identify and minimize the potential impacts of this necessary outage. A significant amount of planning and coordination has occurred within the Forest Service and in coordination with our agency partners to ensure these outages will have a minimum impact to the important services we provide to the public.
