HRM: How to verify employment for Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

The U.S. Department of Education announced a temporary change to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program rules under the limited PSLF waiver. Now, for a limited time, borrowers may get credit for past periods of repayment that normally would not qualify for PSLF. This includes borrowers with Federal Family Education Loan Program loans who consolidate into the Direct Loan Program by Oct. 31, 2022. If you plan to file a waiver for the PSLF Program, your supervisor or Human Resources Management can sign the PSLF form to verify your employment with the Forest Service. Acceptable forms of signatures are listed on the PSLF website.

If you have worked for more than one federal agency, send your form to HRM to verify employment based upon the employment records in your electronic Official Personnel Folder.

If you plan to submit your PSLF form to HRM for employment verification, please send no later than Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, to allow enough time to meet the U.S. Department of Education limited repayment waiver deadline of Oct. 31, 2022.

How to Verify Employment

  • Your supervisor can sign the PSFL form verifying you work for the Forest Service by completing Section 4. Acceptable forms of signatures are listed on the PSLF website.
  • You can contact HRM for employment verification using the avenues listed below. HRM will verify your employment by completing Section 4. Acceptable forms of signatures are listed on the PSLF website.
    • You can create an HR Help Case by logging into ConnectHR, then selecting HR Help. Be sure to attach the form in the notes section, and then submit to HRM to have the PSFL form signed.
    • You can call the HRM Contact Center at 1-877-372-7248; press 2 for assistance.
  • If you need to verify employment for more than one federal agency, please contact HRM. HRM will use the employment records in your eOPF to verify employment and sign the PSFL forms. Acceptable forms of signatures are listed on the PSLF website.

Please Submit PSLF Forms to HRM for Employment Verification No Later than Monday, Oct. 17, 2022

  • If you plan to have HRM verify employment, please submit your PSLF form to HRM no later than Monday, Oct. 17, to allow enough time to meet the U.S. Department of Education deadline of Oct. 31 for the limited time program.
  • If HRM is contacted to verify employment, once the PSFL form has been signed by an HRM specialist, it will be uploaded to the HR Help Case or emailed to you using the HR Help System.

Next Steps

You will need to return the completed PSFL form and any other required documentation using one of three methods listed below as provided on the PSFL website:

  • Mail to: U.S. Department of Education, MOHELA, 633 Spirit Drive, Chesterfield, MO 63005-1243
  • Fax to: 866-222-7060
  • If MOHELA is already your servicer: you may upload your PSLF form on the MOHELA website.
