The USDA Office of Human Resources Management has issued a tax compliance advisory reminding all federal government employees that they must file their tax returns accurately and pay any outstanding tax obligations.

As taxpayers, and federal employees, we must file accurate tax returns and pay any owed tax obligations. Failure to pay owed taxes can negatively affect an employee’s suitability for holding a government security clearance. Additionally, federal government employees who deliberately fail to pay their tax obligations are subject to appropriate administrative action.

The Internal Revenue Service website has automated tools and information available to assist federal government employees with post tax filing estimates, guidance, payments, etc.

The IRS also has a toll-free phone number, 1-800-829-1040, to provide information about filing tax returns, discuss how to resolve outstanding tax balances owed, etc.
