Announcing the Outward Leadership Program

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Office of Human Resources Management, Talent Management Division is pleased to announce the launch of the new training, Outward Leadership, for leaders across USDA. The Outward Leadership virtual workshop is a year-long program designed to significantly and quickly advance a leader’s ability to develop high-performing teams by applying an outward mindset. Outward Leadership equips leaders with the mindset and skillset required to lead people-centric, results-focused teams and organizations.

This program will span the course of a year, and attendance is mandatory for completion. The program will be conducted in a hybrid environment that entails nine virtual sessions and three in-person sessions. Virtual options are not offered for the three in-person sessions. All three in-person sessions are mandatory for completion of the program. Participants are allowed one absence for the application and coaching sessions.

Eligible participants: Current GS-14 through Executives (SES, SL, SSTS, ST and SFS).

Timeline: There will be two cohorts with 25 participants per cohort. This is a one-year program.

Dates for Cohort 1

Virtual sessions: April 9-10, 2024; May 14, 2024; June 11, 2024; July 9, 2024; Sept. 10, 2024; Oct. 15, 2024; Dec. 10, 2024; Jan. 14, 2025; March 11, 2025.

In-person sessions: Aug. 13, 2024; Nov. 5, 2024; Feb. 4, 2025

Dates for Cohort 2

Virtual sessions: May 7-8, 2024; June 12, 2024; July 10, 2024; Aug. 14, 2024; Oct. 16, 2024; Nov. 6, 2024; Jan. 15, 2025; April 9, 2025

In-person sessions: Sept. 11, 2024; Dec. 11, 2024; March 12, 2025

Registration

Registration for this program will open on March 1 and close on March 31. All participants must register through AgLearn. A supervisor agreement is not required.

Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. After TMD administrators confirm eligibility, an acceptance notification will be sent directly to you through an Outlook meeting invite.

FAQs

  1. Is there a cost for this program? There is no direct cost to participants or agencies. This program is being offered and hosted by OHRM/Talent Management Division. Any travel costs are the responsibility of the participating agency/staff office.

  2. Is a supervisor agreement required? No written supervisor agreement is required. We do encourage employees to get permission from their supervisor/manager prior to registering for the program.

  3. Where will the onsite session be held? Onsite sessions will be held in the Washington, D.C., area.

  4. How can we register as a team? We encourage teams to go through this program together. Each team member will need to register individually through AgLearn.
