On the Move: July 8, 2024

Following the recent message from the Chief announcing the outcome of our Strategic Hiring Assessment and our plan for prioritizing and managing current critical vacancies, we are formally announcing a number of internal selections for line and senior leader positions.
Linwood Butler accepted the position of forest supervisor for the National Forests in Alabama, Southern Region (R8). Butler currently serves as the deputy forest supervisor in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests in the Southern Region.
Chris Christofferson accepted the position of forest supervisor for the Klamath National Forest, Pacific Southwest Region (R5). Christofferson currently serves as the forest supervisor in the Modoc National Forest, Pacific Southwest Region.
Matthew Davis accepted the position of forest supervisor for the Payette National Forest, Intermountain Region (R4). Davis currently serves as the district ranger on the Idaho Panhandle National Forest, Priest Lake Ranger District, Northern Region (R1).
Sean Ferrell accepted the position of deputy forest supervisor for the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests, Rocky Mountain Region (R2). Ferrell currently serves as the staff officer in the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests.
Daniel (Logan) Gallant accepted the position of deputy forest supervisor for the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas, Southern Region (R8). Gallant currently serves as the district ranger, National Forests and Grasslands in Texas, Angelina and Sabine ranger districts.
Kristy Groves accepted the position of forest supervisor for the Ashley National Forest, Intermountain Region (R4). Groves currently serves as the district ranger on the Ashley National Forest, Duchesne/Roosevelt Ranger District.
Robert “Rob” Harper accepted the position of acting senior advisor to the deputy chief for Research and Development effective July 28. Harper currently serves as national director for Biological and Physical Resources in Washington, D.C.
Rosalie Herrera accepted the position of deputy forest supervisor for the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Pacific Southwest Region (R5). Herrera currently serves as the recreation management specialist in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, Southwestern Region (R3).
Rebecca Hotze accepted the position of deputy forest supervisor for the Bridger-Teton National Forest, Intermountain Region (R4). Hotze currently serves as the district ranger on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, Salt Lake Ranger District, Intermountain Region.
Matt Jedra accepted the position of forest supervisor for the Custer-Gallatin National Forest, Northern Region (R1). Jedra currently serves as the deputy forest supervisor on the Tahoe National Forest, Pacific Southwest Region (R5).
Joshua Milligan accepted the position of deputy forest supervisor for the Salmon-Challis National Forest, Intermountain Region (R4). Milligan currently serves as the staff officer on the Salmon-Challis National Forest.
Heath Perrine accepted the position of deputy forest supervisor for the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, Northern Region (R1). Perrine currently serves as the district ranger in the Salmon-Challis National Forest, Challis-Yankee Fork Ranger District, Intermountain Region (R4).
Mia Prince accepted the position of supervisory criminal investigator for Law Enforcement and Investigations in the Washington Office. Prince currently serves as the senior special agent in the Office of Professional Responsibility in LEI.
Brandon Robinson accepted the position of supervisory criminal investigator for the Pacific Southwest Region (R5) for Law Enforcement and Investigations. Robinson currently serves as the senior special agent at the Forest Service National Academy, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.
Dr. John Rothlisberger accepted the permanent position of director of Sustainable Forest Management in Research and Development, Washington, D.C., effective July 8. Rothlisberger's most recent permanent assignment was as deputy area budget coordinator for Research and Development.
Dr. Christopher “Chris” Swanston accepted the position of acting associate deputy chief for Research and Development effective July 8. Swanston currently serves as Forest Service climate advisor and director, Office of Sustainability and Climate. He replaces Dr. Valerie Hipkins.
Barbara Van Alstine accepted the position of forest supervisor for the Manti-La Sal National Forest, Intermountain Region (R4). Van Alstine currently serves as the district ranger on the Ottawa National Forest, Kenton-Ontonagon/Bergland Ranger Districts, Eastern Region (R9).
Alfred (Al) Watson accepted the position of forest supervisor for the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, Northern Region (R1). Watson currently serves as district ranger in the Sequoia National Forest, Kern River District, Pacific Southwest Region (R5).
