Rogue River-Siskiyou vehicle accident learning review
WASHINGTON, D.C.—On Aug. 4, 2023, a Forest Service vehicle carrying three firefighters went off the road while driving from the Gold Beach Ranger District to the Powers Ranger District, both on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. Tragically, one of the occupants suffered fatal injuries during the incident. The other two firefighters were taken to the hospital; one received treatment for minor injuries, the other was evaluated out of an abundance of caution and both were released later that evening.
The learning review for this accident, which captures the perspectives and experiences of persons who responded to or witnessed the event, has now been published on the Wildland Fire Lessons Learned Center website.
The Forest Service will use the information gathered to learn how the agency can reduce the possibility of similar events in the future.
