CNNF silviculturist recognized with Forester of the Year Award

WISCONSIN—Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest District Silviculturist John Lampereur was awarded the 2024 Mike King Field Forester of the Year Award Oct. 16, at the 2024 Wisconsin Society of American Foresters meeting in Lac du Flambeau, Wis. John works on the Lakewood-Laona District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

The Mike King WISAF Field Forester of the Year Award is unique to the Wisconsin Society of American Foresters and recognizes a member for their outstanding contributions to field forestry. The recipient must have practiced field forestry for at least 15 years, the majority of which must be in applied field forestry. The recipient should demonstrate a career dedicated to the application of forestry on the ground using sound scientific methods and adaptive management strategies.

John Lampereur has a 35-year forestry career with the Forest Service, starting on the Wenatchee National Forest in Washington. John started on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in 1999. With a strong focus on public lands management and sustainable forestry, John is a leader in ecological silviculture and forest restoration in Wisconsin, especially in northern dry forests. Additionally, John is a strong mentor and advocate for early career development of technical and temporary staff.
