Steve Koehn honored with NASF award in his name
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Cooperative Forestry Director Steve Koehn has been recognized for his work in forest public policy by having the National Association of State Foresters Current Achievement Award for Forest Public Policy named in his honor.
Every five years, the NASF awards committee honors former state foresters by designating NASF awards in their names. The Steve Koehn Current Achievement Award for Forest Public Policy will be presented Sept. 9 at the NASF annual meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
As director of Cooperative Forestry, Koehn is responsible for plans, programs and policies that enhance and promote forestry on state and private lands, including rural private forestry, urban forestry, open space conservation, woody biomass, ecosystem services, forest taxation, reforestation, nurseries and gene conservation, as well as climate change adaptation on state and private lands and a wide range of communities.
Koehn has extensive experience in forestry. He previously served as state forester for the Maryland Forest Service, president of the National Association of State foresters, president of the Northeastern Areas Association of State Foresters, member of the independent Sustainable Forestry Initiative board of directors, chair of the American Forest Foundation’s Woodland Operating Committee and a member of American Forest Foundation’s board of trustees.
