Learn what smokejumpers are, their history, and how they fight wildfires in North America. See exhibits about wildland firefighting and how smokejumpers and the other Aerial Fire Depot organizations work together to make wildland firefighting safer and more efficient.

Exhibits include several short videos as well as an actual fire lookout from 1937, which visitors can tour.
 

 


Fall / Winter Hours:

September       

  • Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) 

 October             

  • Monday  - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Mountain Time)              

 

November 2024 - April 2025        

  • Limited Hours - Due to Limited Staffing, please call in advance for availability.                
     


Tours:

Learn what Smokejumpers are, how they fight wildfires in North America and about the history of the Smokejumper program. See exhibits about wildfire fighting and how Smokejumpers and the other Aerial Fire Depot organizations work together to make wildfire fighting safer and more efficient.

Exhibits include several short videos and visitors can enter an actual fire lookout from 1937. 

September:

  • Morning: 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. 

  • Afternoon: 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

October:

  • Call for tour availability.

 

November 2024 - April 2025

Due to Limited Staffing, please call in advance for availability.

 

Tour Duration (regardless of time of year): takes approximately 45 minutes to one-hour.

 

Tour Groups:

  • Small groups do not need to make prior reservations to take a guided tour of the smokejumper facility.

  • Large groups of ten or more people should call in advance and schedule a tour.

Directions:

Located northwest of the Missoula Montana Airport. Take Airway Boulevard, Exit 99 from Interstate 90, and follow signs to the Smokejumper Base located ½ mile west of the airport terminal.
