Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Blue Mountain Byway East Interpretive Site

The Blue Mountain Byway East Interpretive Site is located on Forest Road  73 at the east end portal to the Blue Mountain Scenic Byway and it's junction with the Elkhorn Scenic Byway.  The interpretive site is just south of the North Fork John Day Campground.  A picnic table is set below the kiosk in the trees for day use.

Blue Mountain Campground

Blue Mountain Campground is located 1.5 miles south of Lake George off County Road 96 and County Road 61. It has 21 campsites with parking spurs 16 feet to 40 feet and a maximum trailer length of 25 feet. At an elevation of 8,200 feet, its facilities include toilets, water, tables and fire rings. There is no trash at this campground.

Blue Range Wilderness

The 29,304 acre Blue Range Wilderness was designated in 1980 and is located on the western border of New Mexico and is managed by the Gila National Forest. It adjoins the Blue Range Primitive Area, which is managed by the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in Arizona.  

Blue Ridge Campground

This is a trailhead for the Blue Spring Trail within the North Fork Recreation Area just off of the day use parking lot at the southern end of the recreation area.

Blue Springs Summit Sno-Park

The Blue Spring Summit Sno-Park is a year-round facility situated off of the Elkhorn Drive Scenic Byway. This centrally located site is used both as a snowmobile trailhead in the winter months and as the northern OHV trailhead for the Blue Mountain OHV Trail in the late spring through fall months.

Blue Valley Dispersed Camping

Dispersed camping in the Blue Valley area. Approximately 22 dispersed sites are available, and most have fire rings and picnic tables. A pit toilet is available. Please pack in and pack out. Wilson Lake is a short distance away offering fishing, swimming, a short trail, and wildlife viewing and birding.
