Your national forests and grasslands are 193 million acres of vast, scenic beauty waiting for you to discover. Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Rainy Hill Boat Launch

This site features a boat ramp and toilets and provides access to fishing and boating on Medicine and Cave Lakes. There is an additional boat launch on Medimont Road 1/2 mile further west.

Rainy Lake Campground

This is a small 6-site campground on Rainy Lake north of Seeley Lake. Sites 2-6 are walk-in only, and site 1 is an accessible RV site. Vehicles must stay on roads, and all sites are first come, first served. Rainy Lake, one of the Clearwater Chain of Lakes, offers fishing and space to canoe or kayak. Hiking is also available nearby.

Rainy Pass Trailhead (north side of Hwy 20)

This trailhead in forested area, gives access to the Pacific Crest Trail #2000 north of Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and south of Pasayten Wilderness.

Raleigh Heights Trailhead

The Raleigh Heights Trailhead is located at 41664 sec. 21 on the East side of Peavine Mountain. A variety of off-highway opportunities are available in the area: including OHV and 4x4. Open routes are marked with a route number and type of vehicles allowed.

Ralston Picnic Site

Located twelve miles east of Foresthill on Mosquito Ridge Road (forest road 96) and one mile south on Forest Road 23.  Located on the Middle Fork of the American River.  Five picnic sites with tables and fire rings.  Firewood scarce.

Rambouillet Snow #473

Rambouillet Snow Trail #473 is 4.5 miles long. It begins at Forest Road #729.1A and ends at the Gunnison National Forest boundary. The snow trail is open for the following uses: XC Skiing/Snowshoeing and Snowmobiling

Ramshorn Campground

Rancheria Campground

Tucked under a dense canopy of fir and pine trees, Rancheria Campground is located on the shores of Huntington Lake near the Kaiser Wilderness. Ranger Creek Campground

Ranger Creek Campground is located near the Big Goose Ranger Station, a historic ranger station built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Reservations are not accepted. All campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Ranger Creek Recreation Area

Situated on the banks of Ranger Creek, Ranger Creek Recreation Area has a group site that can accommodate up to 150 people for overnight camping or day use picnicking.
