Your national forests and grasslands are 193 million acres of vast, scenic beauty waiting for you to discover. Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Bullseye Lake Campground

A short distance from the Medicine Lake Recreation Area, Bullseye Lake Campground offers quiet nights and plenty of shade for those hot summer days.

Upper Rush Creek Campground

A densely shaded campground adjacent to Rush Creek. No water or trash services available - pack it in, pack it out.

Middle Fork Davis Creek Mine

Obsidian Needles Mine

Patterson Guard Station

Patterson Guard Station Built in 1921, Patterson Guard Station supported the Modoc National Forest's fire program until 1981. With recent renovations completed, the guard station is now available for overnight rentals. Reserve Now

Pit River Trailhead

The newest developed recreation site on the Modoc National Forest. A new vault toilet was installed in October 2023 with more upgrades to come in 2024.

Beartooth Plateau

The Clarks Fork Ranger District encompasses much of the Beartooth Plateau, which is located in northwest Wyoming, near Yellowstone National Park. Beartooth Lake Campground

The Beartooth Lake Campground has 21 sites and is located near many beautiful mountain lakes. There is a nearby store for supplies, and there is no cell service available. This site is not accessible to persons with mobility impairments.  Maximum spur 32 feet.

Clay Butte Lookout

The Clay Butte Lookout was built in 1942 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and was staffed until the 1960s, when aircraft proved a better tool for fire detection. Because of its popular scenic vantage point and proximity to the Beartooth Highway, Clay Butte continued to be used as a visitor information site. Crazy Creek Campground

Dead Indian Campground

This campground hosts 10 campsites and a trailhead across State Highway 296. The trail climbs along Dead Indian Creek, through the Absaroka Wilderness, across Dead Indian Meadows, and up to the summit of Dead Indian Peak. 16-day stay limitThis site is not accessible to persons with mobility impairmentsNo cell service Notes: Adjacent corrals at trailhead across Hwy 296.  Maximum spur 32 feet.

Fox Creek Campground

Fox Creek Campground is a large, newly remodeled 33-site campground with beautiful views of Pilot and Index Peaks. From this campground you have great access to the Beartooths and Yellowstone National Park. 16-day stay limitThis site is not accessible to persons with mobility impairments.No cell service Notes: Maximum spur 32 feet. Single electric units and two electric triple sites are available.

Hunter Peak Campground

The Hunter Peak Campground has 10 campsites and sits on the banks of the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River, offering outstanding fishing opportunities. The Clarks Fork Trailhead is located across the highway. Island Lake Campground

Lake Creek Campground

Lake Creek Campground contains six sites with Lake Creek flowing near the campground. 16-day stay limitThis site is not accessible to persons with mobility impairmentsNo cell service Notes: Maximum spur 22 feet

Lily Lake Campground

This campground is currently under construction and will have seven camp sites and a boat launch to the picturesque Lily Lake. 16-day stay limitThis site is not accessible to persons with mobility impairmentsNo cell service Notes: Boat launch, three shared bear boxes, five picnic tables, but no metal fire rings or grates. No garbage collection

Little Sunlight Camping Area

This campground hosts five sites with a canopy of pine and juniper surrounding the site. 16-day stay limitThis site is not accessible to persons with mobility impairmentsNo cell service Notes: Picnic tables and bear boxes provided. However, water, Forest Service fire rings, and garbage pickup are not provided. Corrals and parking for horse trailers are available at the nearby trailhead.

Reef Creek Picnic Site

The Reef Creek Picnic Site is located along the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway. The site has picnic tables, fire rings, and cook grates.

Sunlight Creek Picnic Site

The Sunlight Creek Picnic Site is located along State Highway 296, the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway. The site has picnic tables, and fire rings. 

Meeteetse

Meeteetse, Wyoming is located about 30 miles south of Cody on State Highway 120. The Greybull Ranger District is accessed from Meeteetse, using State Highway 290 along the beautiful Wood River. The ghost town of Kirwin on the Shoshone National Forest is a two-hour drive on the Wood River Road (the last few miles are rough - 4-wheel drive recommended). Brown Mountain Campground

This campground hosts seven sites along the beautiful Wood River. The ghost town of Kirwin is located 9 miles west (rough road, 4-wheel drive recommended). This site is not accessible to persons with mobility impairments. There is no cell service available.  Maximum spur 16 feet with the exception of one spur of 40 feet. Fishhawk Trailhead
