Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Gooseberry Springs Trailhead

Trailhead is located on the upper loop of Forest Road 193, approximately 5 miles from State Highway 547.

Gooseneck Cove Boat-In Campground

Gooseneck Cove is one of four boat-access only campgrounds on Shasta lake.  Located on the upper Sacramento arm of the lake, this facility is very popular.  Whether or not the access is difficult varies depends on the current lake level. There are vault toilets and no piped water.  This is a pack it in, pack it out facility.

Gooseneck Lake Campsites

Gooseneck Lake is an extremely busy lake, with private lands and cottages surrounding most of this 123 acre lake. As a result, pontoon boats, jet skis and water skiers and even occasional fishing boats can be seen and heard on the lake. There is no drinking water available at these campsites. Goosenest Ranger District

Summer or winter the Goosenest Ranger District provides opportunities for many types of recreation. Deer Mountain and Four Corners snowmobile parks provide 135 miles of groomed snowmobile trails which are part of a 250 mile network the reaches into the western half of the Modoc National Forest and the northern part of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Juniper Flat OHV Area provides 48 acres of open riding terrain.

Goosenest Trailhead

This trailhead takes day hikers to the top of Goosenest Mountain, a scenic and ancient volcano.  Elevation at the top is 8,280 feet.  The trail is 1.2 miles, so 2.4 miles round trip.  If you can see snow on Goosenest Mountain, there probably will be snow on the trail. Trails into higher elevations may have snow well into June.

Goosepasture OHV Staging Area

Located less than a mile from Florence, OR, this popular OHV staging area can be accessed from South Jetty Road. This large paved parking area can accomodate longer trailers, but can often be full by mid-morning during the busy summer season and sunny weather weekends. Gordon Gulch Dispersed Camping Area

Five miles north of Nederland, National Forest System Road (NFSR) 226, commonly known as Gordon Gulch, turns east off of Colorado Highway 72. NFSR 226 intersects other forest roads: NFSR 314, 228, 233 and their off shoots. There are 15 numbered, designated campsites scattered along the road system within 1.5 miles east of Highway 72. Gordon Hirabayashi Campground

This site is also known as Prison Camp.The site was a Federal Honor Camp beginning in 1937 to house federal prisoners supplying labor to build a road for access into the Santa Catalina Mountains. Prisoners had been convicted of federal crimes ranging from immigration law violations to tax evasion to bank robbery. Gordon Reese Cabin

Gordon Reese Cabin is located near Chief Joseph Pass on the Montana-Idaho border. It was built in 2001. It is a hike-in (1/2 mile) cabin and is used as a warming hut in the winter for cross-country skiers.

Gore Range TH #60

The Gore Range Trail runs the north-south length of the Dillon Ranger District portion of the Eagles Nest Wilderness. The trail begins at the Copper Mountain exit along Interstate 70 and finishes in the Spring Creek area north of Green Mountain Reservoir. The trail climbs over Uneva and Eccles Passes before dropping below tree-line. It then climbs in and out of numerous drainages as it travels north.
