The Forest Service is looking to hire permanent seasonal forestry aids and technicians, positions will open October 19 through November 22, 2023.

Seasonal employment is a great way to start a lifelong career with the Forest Service. Initial seasonal appointment employees will work a 13/13 schedule, which means you will be guaranteed 13 pay periods (6 months) of work and you will be off the other 13 pay periods (6 months). Appointments may be increased at a later time to 18/8 (18 pay periods of work, 8 pay periods off) or a full 26 pay periods of work based on unit needs and funding. 

We are hiring hundreds of entry-level forestry technicians and forestry aids in exciting and rewarding locations across the nation. As a forestry technician or forestry aid, you’ll make a difference by helping to reduce the threat of wildfire, lessen tree disease, decrease the spread of invasive plant species, or improve habitat for wildlife. Your work may also support recreation and the public’s enjoyment of national forests and grasslands.

Job Opportunities

Forestry Technician & Aids

Forestry aids and technicians work in a variety of natural resource and recreation areas such as timber, wildlife, watershed, botany, silviculture, recreation, visitor services, and more. As a forestry aid or technician, you may survey the ecosystem, build and maintain trails, implement restorative and protective projects, manage the growth of trees and other vegetation, recruit and train volunteers, or work directly with the public. You will get to make an impact on our nations forests by reducing threat of wildfires, improve habitats for wildlife including threatened and endangered species, decrease the spread of invasive plant species, and much more.

Positions will be open to the public, you can apply on USAJOBS October 19 through November 22, 2023. Positions will be available in various locations across the nation, location information will be available on the USAJOBS announcements. 

Eligibility

Applications will be accepted from any U.S. citizen or national who is at least 18 years of age.

Drug Testing

As an applicant, you may be subject to drug testing as part of the hiring process and must receive a negative drug test prior to reporting for duty. In addition, these positions are subject to random testing for illegal drug use. 

Selective Service Registration

Selective Service registration is the law. As a federal agency, the Forest Service must make sure any candidate required by law is either registered for Selective Service or has a qualifying exemption.
