Apply for a Forest Service Job
How to Apply
For most Forest Service jobs, you must apply at USAJOBS.gov. For special programs such as certain internships or for special hiring authorities such as certain veterans, the application process options may differ. Be sure to read the information on those programs carefully.
Step-by-Step
-
Create and Account on USAJobs.gov
Visit USAJOBS.gov and select “Create Profile” on the front page. Use an email address that you will always have access to, not a work or school email.
-
Enter Your Eligibility Information
USAJOBS will take you through a survey to gather information about which hiring authority you may fall under, contact information, citizenship status, and education.
-
Add or Create a Resume
Under the Documents section, you can add resumes. If you don't have a resume, learn how to write a resume for federal jobs.
-
Add other Documents
Some jobs require other documents such as transcripts, proof of performance, veteran paperwork, or other. Review the job announcement carefully.
-
Search for Jobs
-
Use the search bar on the front page of USAJOBS to search for jobs, career fields, agencies, locations, or more. If the Preferences section in your profile is complete, the search automatically populates with your choices.
-
Use the Filters box on the right to search by departments, agencies, pay, grade levels, job series, and hiring authorities. The More Filters tab includes relocation assistance, work schedule, appointment type, and more.
-
Once you select your filters, you can choose Save Search at the top of the page.
-
-
Apply for Jobs
Select a job opening to learn about how to apply, eligibility requirements, and required documents. Review this information carefully.
-
If you would like to apply for the job later, note the close date and select Save below Apply Now. You can access this job opening at any time from your profile.
-
If you qualify and you are interested, select Apply Now. You will then automatically go to the agency’s hiring site to complete the questionnaire. Review your information carefully and submit application to receive a confirmation email from USAJOBS.
