This publication describes the composition and structure of vegetation on what are sometimes overlooked components of the landscape, including abundant abandoned fields and secondary forests, in Puerto Rico. It stems from a collaboration between the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Forest Service to develop information on vegetation succession stages, closely tied to soil descriptions and terrain features, that can serve as a decision-support tool for public and private land managers.
