Cherokee National Forest Projects

The project is designed to improve or maintain wildlife habitat, species diversity of stands, and forest health through vegetation management and other treatments.

Project will include approximately 8,760 acres that would receive a treatment of mating disruption pheromones to control the gypsy moth. These acres include approximately 2,290 acres of private land and 6,470 acres of National Forest System land

The 2022 South Zone Prescribed Fire Renewal project renews and amends three existing burn units: McNabb T25, Salt Spring T03, and McCamey O31. This project would involve multiple prescribed burn entries in the burn units.

Crown Castle proposes to increase the height of their cellular tower from 180' to 210' and add 3 new guyed anchor rods to the existing guyed anchor blocks. Crown Castle has a communication site lease. There would be no new ground disturbance.

This project proposes relocation of approximately 0.45 miles of the Appalachian Trail, decommissioning the old trail and re-blazing the new section of trial and installation of two gates.

This project consists of demolition of the existing trail bridge, including deck, abutments and sills, and construction of a replacement bridge in the existing location. The new bridge will be a single span structure, approximately 20 feet long.

Replace existing structure with a single span structure approximately 20 ft long. Construct new abutments & sills. Bridge will be sited approximately 20 ft downstream of existing location.

AT&T would like to place approximately 11.3 KF of fiber cable and six 30%u201Dx48%u201Dx36%u201D hand holes in the ROW and under the gravel roadway of Fairview Rd from existing HH feeding the Verizon tower at 831 Fairview Rd to a new AT&T tower.

At the request of the Cherokee National Forest, AT&T would install fiber optic line from Lake Ocoee Inn and Marina to the Ocoee Ranger Station. Analysis includes a foreseeable future action to install fiber optic to the Ocoee Work Center on Hwy 30.

Install approximately 13,000 feet of fiber optic line aerially on existing power poles along Hwy 30 and across the Hiwassee River and subsurface in existing conduit line along Hambright Road. Install two hand holes at river crossing.

ATT proposes to install an 8%u2019x8%u2019 equipment cabinet on an existing concrete foundation, 20kw AC generator, H-Frame with meter and disconnect, and underground copper grounding wire and antenna installation on an existing tower structure.

Place approximately 1700 ft of fiber optic cable in a 30" X 12" trench adjacent to Benton Springs Road.

Reburn approximately 953 acres in Compartments 353/354. Previously burned in March of 2005.

This project proposes to install two AT supporting facilities and provide access to a suitable water source.

2nd phase of an Appalachian Trail relocation project from Hughes Gap to Cloudland. About 4,500 feet of relocation from Ash Gap to the historic Cloudland Hotel Historic Site.

About 12,000 feet of trail relocations between Hughes Gap and Beartown Mountain. This is the lower part of a larger relocation from Hughes Gap to Cloudland. Beartown Mountain to Cloudland is now a seperate project

Relocation of AT from White Rocks Mtn to Coon Den Falls Trail

Relocation of AT onto recently acquired Rocky Fork Tract

Construct approx. 2400 feet of new trail, with approx. 600 feet along a sidehill, to replace a steep, eroding section of the AT at Turkey Pen Gap

Salvage Hemlock infested with Hemlock Wooly Adelgid.

Replace Bald River Falls bridge with a similar structure that meets current safety standards. The structure would include a sidewalk on the downstream side and a sidewalk/viewing platform on the upstream (falls) side.

742 acres of Non Commercial thinning to improve forest structure and vigor.

Prescribe burn approximately 4,500 acres.

Salvage dead hemlock greater than 10 inches DBH within approximatley 100 feet above and below Beaverdam Road. There would be no road construction.

BellSouth has requested to install 880 feet of conduit for fiber optic cable installation along Hwy 64.

Reburn approximately 1816 acres in Compartments 215, 216, 217 and 218. Previously burned in March, 2004.

The Benton Mackaye Thunder Rock Bridge Relocation Project would remove the existing trail bridge, construct a multiple log stringer bridge, construct approximately 150 feet of new trail, and decommission approximately 130 feet of existing trail.

Vegetation management for forest health and wildlife habitat improvements.

Non-commercially thin and prescribe burn approximately 890 acres

Prescribed burning for fuel reduction and wildlife habitat

62 acres of thinning (Comp 92, Std 16; Comp 94, Stds 3 & 21; Comp 95, Stds 4 & 5), with TSI and mid-story burning.

This project is proposing a combination of midstory and crop tree treatments as well as prescribed burning.

Prescribe burn approximately 2,034 acres.

This project focuses on moving the stands toward a more open woodland condition and promote Shortleaf Pine.

Purchase of approximately 3.55 acres of land. Project includes painting and posting of National Forest System boundary line around the tract.

Restore selected natural vegetative communities and enhance wildlife habitat.

Convert old FS roads to the ATV trail. This would provide approximately 5 miles of additional ATV trail in the Buffalo Mt area.

This project proposes the establishment of approximately 5.05 miles of trail that are currently existing on the ground.

Relocate a section of the Buffalo Mtn ATV trial off the pinch point to the newly acquired FS land.

Construct an approximately 7 - 10 mile mountain bike trail on Buffalo Mountain.

The project would repair and reconstruct a woven wire fence within the Bullet Creek Rare Community to prevent feral swine / wild boar from entering and damaging this unique and rare ecosystem. The existing fence would be removed from the site.

Installation of buried waterline at Recreation Residence Cabin #1

Installation of a buried electric line, water and septic system at Recreation Residence Cabin #5.

The owner of recreation residence #1 has requested authority to demolish and replace the existing structure. New construction would meet federal, state and local codes.

Cabin 47 has requested permission to install a well on their lot to substitute the current lake drawn water source.

The permit for Recreation Residence #5 would be amended to permit improvements to the dock, deck and other items located on the lot.

The camp will tear down and rebuild the 20' X 24' caretaker's workshop with a new 20' X 24' workshop in the existing location within the organizational camp.

Camp Living Stones has requested authorization to take 100 students to the Buck Bald overlook on Thursday afternoons during the 10 week summer months of camp for up to 2 years.

The project expands the recreational opportunities of the camp while improving the facilities to current laws and regulations.

This project focuses on vegetation management (commercial, non-commercial thinning, and prescribed burning) activities designed to restore forest communities to those vegetation types that would be predicted to occur at each given location.

Open the canopy so the existing population can spread. Cut trees(small diameter Virginia Pine and a few hardwood) using chainsaws. The downed trees would then be pulled back a short distance into the forested area adjacent to the site.

Non-commercially thin and prescribe burn approximately 113 acres in Compartment 344.

Prescribed burn approximately 1512 acres in compartments 242, 243, 249, 250, 251. Never been burned. This is the second half of the Chestnut Ridge Prescribed Burn as outlined in the 2008 Decision.

Currently the area is being treated for NNIS. Once the treated is completed it is proposed to use a combination of mechanical treatments(girdling, felling) and fire to create more favorable habitat conditions for the existing river cane to expand.

Use heavy equipment to dig up to 10 soil pits and collect samples for waste characterization. Samples would be delivered to an offsite laboratory for analysis. All holes would be backfilled with excavated material and covered with soil from onsite.

Vegetation Management and Wildlife Habitat activities in the Clarke Mountain area

Cocke County Emergency Services are requesting to improve two locations along the Pigeon River in the Bluffton/Hartford area.

The Tellico Ranger District proposes the removal of tornado down and damaged trees from approximately a 1 mile segment of the Cold Springs Road. These trees are completely blocking the road and not allowing usage of the road as a through road.

Commercially thin approximately 69 acres.

Vegetation Management through various tools for forest health and wildlife habitat improvement. Also, watershed and trail improvements with connected road management.

Non-commercially thin approximately 516 acres in Compartments 21 and 22. Conduct site preparation prescribed burns to promote shortleaf pine and oak regeneration.

This project is proposing to relocate approximately 150 ft of the Coon Den Falls (Trail 37)

This project proposes constructing approx. 330 ft. of new trail to relocate the trail away from an existing spring.

A proposal to O&G backpacking trips in the Citico Creek Wilderness has been submitted. A base camp is proposed at Citico 13 campsite. Numerous trails proposed to be used to introduce approximately 90 students each March to wilderness backpacking.

The existing 66" round culvert at Davis Branch on Sina Branch Road is a barrier to aquatic organism passage. The project consists of removal of the existing culvert and installation of an aluminum bottomless box culvert.

Prescribe burn approximately 1,550 acres for hazardous fuels reduction and wildlife habitat creation.

Block access to user created trails in the Flatwoods, Halls Top East and West, Ripshin, Rich Mountain, and Buffalo Mountain areas.

The Dennis Cove U-1640 Land Acquisition Project would acquire approximately 129.5 acres of adjoining the Pond Mountain Wilderness. The parcel would be managed under the 4.A Appalachian Trail Corridor management prescription.

Prescribe burn approximately 1,700 acres.

The project is designed to improve or maintain wildlife habitat, species diversity of stands, and forest health through vegetation management and other treatments.

Vegetation management and wildlife activities in the Iron Mountain, Stone Mountain and Watauga Lake areas.

This project focuses on controlling illegal access and rehabilitating disturbed, eroding or compacted areas in the Doe River watershed.

Reconstruct and relocate the North River trail bridge with single log bridge, recontour soil around cabin to divert water away from the cabin, and relocate and potentially reconstruct the existing pit toilet and dig a new toilet pit.

This project focuses on vegetation management (thinning) activities designed to maintain a healthy forest. This project also focuses on low intensity bum to develop open woodland conditions and create mixed hardwood/pine system.

The Forest Service is proposing to acquire 1 parcel in Unicoi County, TN (U-1637), approximately 67 acres.

Salvage 172 acres of dead, down and wind thrown timber to reduce public safety hazards, decrease remaining wildfire fuel loads, and promoting a healthy forest. Reforest the harvested area following salvage operations.

Prescribe burn approximately 4,250 acres

proposing using biocontrol agents when ash trees become infected

Install approx. 30 ft of underground powerline and limited aerial powerline on NFS lands.

The project would install approximately 1,840 feet of three phase distribution powerline with approximately 10 new power poles and remove approximately 640 feet of electric line near Oosterneck Road.

Install 2,300 feet of three phase distribution power line along Shaw Mountain Road and to retire 1,250 feet of overhead electrical facilities along Seng Garden Road. Clearing will be from ground to sky up to 40 feet in width.

Conduct prescribed fire on 13 burn units: eight burn units on the Ocoee Ranger District and 5 on Tellico Ranger District.

The FY 2025 South Zone Prescribed Fire- Ocoee Ranger District Project would conduct prescribed fire on approximately 13,332 acres on 8 burn units on the Ocoee/Hiwassee Ranger District.

Federal Property Tract U-1598 disposal to be covered for land for land exchange to Paul Farnor; 53 acres

This project proposes an easement request for access to the Farthing Tract, which is private property surrounded by Cherokee National Forest (CNF). The landowner is requesting to put in an access road to their property which will cross CNF property.

Non-commercially thin and prescribe burn approximately 512 acres in Compartment 232

The Fiscal Year 2024 Prescribed Fire Project would conduct prescribed fire on 41,919 acres on 28 burn units: 15 burn units on the Ocoee/Hiwassee Ranger District and 13 burn units on the Tellico Ranger District.

Construct a 3-mile multi-use trail utilizing railbed from FSR 87B to Holston Mountain Trail #44.

This project focuses on thinning activities designed to maintain a healthy forest.Also,this project focuses on low intensity burns to move stand toward an open woodland condition and promote upland oak,shortleaf pine and a more open forest condition.

This project proposes routine road maintenance activities across all four Ranger Districts of the Cherokee National Forest.

FLEC has proposed to relocate a distribution line in the Indian Boundary Recreation Area. Approximately 500 ft. of aerial cable will be removed and then 1,000 feet of aerial cable and 200 ft. of buried would be installed along NFSR 345H1 and 345H.

The project would construct a permanent observation platform, walkway, and river access at Baby Falls Day Use Area. Design and construction materials of the viewing platform would be consistent with proposed Bald River Falls Bridge construction.

Maintenance of existing buildings, repair or replacement of existing site features and furnishings, repair and enlargement of boat ramps and launches, replacement of boat ramps, riverbank erosion repair, and drainage improvements.

The project would maintain, repair, or replace existing site features and furnishings, redesign campground layouts, remove hazard trees, harden user-created river access at recreation sites, and complete site drainage improvements in the Tellico area

Prescribe burn approximately 1,605 acres.

150 acre addition to the existing Gravelstand burn unit. The additional acreage is adjacent to the existing Gravelstand unit with similar vegetation, wildlife habitat, and topography. The connector would be burned in conjunction with the main unit.

Prescribe burn approximately 1,640 acres.

Gypsy Moth eradication of isolated population in Johnson County, TN; ahead of the main front in VA.

Hazardous Fuels Mitigation along the Stone Mtn Tower Road and around the communication towers at the end of the Stone Mtn Tower Road. Thinning trees around towers and road in conjuction with tree removal work TN Dept. of Forestry is conducting.

This project is proposing to install an approx. 300%u2019 trail connector from the Forest Service boundary to the top of Cedar Mountain (Cedar Peak)

Thin approximately 52 total acres in compartment 91, stand 12 and compartment 92, stand 16, then conduct a midstory control prescribed burn to reduce undesirable understory competition.

approx. 2500 ft burial of waterline to service Grassy Fork Community of Cocke County. Placement in current roadbed/ditchline. All areas are considered previously disturbed.

The 4x4 tour group is requesting a special use permit that would allow them to lead guided jeep/street legal UTV tours in and around Rocky Top, Hall Top and The Gulf.

This project focuses on moving the stands toward a more open woodland condition, with pockets of mature timber with grassy herbaceous layers, and a mosaic feature of pine/oak regeneration.

Relocate approx. 1 mile of Holston Mt Trail #44 onto an exisiting road bed to remove section of trail with unsustainable grade.

This project proposes to implement stream and aquatic habitat restoration, dam removal, low water ford removal, and new bridge installation.

The proposed action is to provide a safe creek crossing location to access Houston Valley Recreation Area and protect the streambank. The proposed action is needed for visitor safety and to mitigate negative effects to aquatic species.

Purchase of approximately 640 acres of land. Project includes painting and posting approximately 1/2 mile of National Forest System boundary line.

Presribed burn approximately 995 acres.

Prescribe burn approximately 522 acres.

Utilize native materials to enhance Indian Boundary Lake habitat for non-game and game fish species and macro-invertebrates by adding natural brush and woody vegetation to the lake bed.

Replace and relocate Bridge 13 30 feet downstream of the current location, construct 215 feet of new trail, and decommission 230 feet of existing trail. Work would be completed by USDA Forest Service personnel with heavy machinery and hand tools.

Create and maintian wildlife openings adjacent to the power line ROW located near Indian Boundary Recreation Area. The project would be completed through partnership with Fort Loudoun Electric Cooperative and National Wild Turkey Federation.

Non-commercially thin and prescribe burn approximately 172 acres.

The Cherokee National Forest is proposing a temporary reroute of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail near Iron Mountain Gap due to impacts from Hurricane Helene. The reroute would last until projects that restore connectivity are complete.

Routine maintenance on approximately 2.5 miles of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) and 2 relocations from Jerrys Cabin Shelter to Gravel Knob.

Road Use agreement for the use of existing Forest Service Roads #293A and B.

Special Use Permit to host rally car race on the Ocoee Ranger District for June 12-17.The race would utilize National Forest System Roads (NFSR) 23, 44, 55, 67, 99, 103, 220, 221, 302, and 1333. Four areas are identified for spectators.

This project is designed to improve the vegetation of the proposed area by thinning the stands with variable density to a range of basal areas from 35 to 60 sq ft per acre.The proposed area is <70 acres and is located in Compartment 385.

Lake Ocoee Inn and Marina have been under permit for 70 years.The current 20-year permit expires December 2012. The permit holder has requested a renewal permit for a term of 30 years. No changes to the existing authorized facilities are requested.

Fuel Reduction Prescribed Burn

This project focuses on thinning activities designed to maintain a healthy forest.Also,this project focuses on low intensity burns to move stand toward an open woodland condition and promote upland oak,shortleaf pine and a more open forest condition.

The Southern Region of the Forest Service is proposing to change its limits of stay at shelters and designated dispersed campsites along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail on several forests of the Southern Region.

This project would replace the existing culvert with a bottomless arch culvert or bridge and simulate the natural stream channel throughout. The project would improve passage for aquatic organisms, restore the stream channel and protect road crossin

Prescribe burn approximately 720 acres.

Salvage 233 acres in Compartment 30 of dead, down and wind thrown timber to reduce public safety hazards, decrease remaining wildfire fuel loads, and promoting a healthy forest. Reforest harvested areas following salvage.

Prescribed burning for fuel reduction and wildlife habitat

Replace two failed water crossings with Aquatic Organism Passage structures sized for the stream, reconstruct .35 miles of Forest Service Road 221, and restore aquatic habitat and stream stability that mimics a properly functioning system.

The Forest Service proposes to acquire 557.72 acres, more or less, situated in Civil District No.5 of Monroe County, Tennessee, located in part along Citico Road, being all of Tax Parcel 35.00 (Map 61).

Salvage dead and dying hemlock along road to remove safety hazards.

Wildlife habitat improvement, forest health management and connected actions.

Prescribed burning for fuel reduction and wildlife habitat

The project would remove an instream concrete dam at river mile 8.3 near Young Branch in Citico Creek. The dam would be removed with heavy machinery in a live or wet stream. All dam materials would be removed from the site.

Grading, graveling, & tree removal to improve the existing woods road for ingress/egress and providing a small trailhead parking area on a portion of USA Tract U-1241e.

This project focuses on moving stands toward a more open woodland condition, with pockets of mature timber with grassy herbaceous layers, and a mosaic feature of pine/oak regeneration using non commercial slashdown treatments and RX fire.

A special use applicant has requested to place an apiary on Lower Sheep Top Road, NFS 332103 from May to October. The apiary is a collection of Italian and European honey bee hives for honey production.

Prescribed burn and thinning to promote forest health and restoration

Prescribe burn approximately 1,600 acres.

Reburn approximately 1571 acres in Compartments 372/373/374/375/376. Previously burned in March, 2005.

Prescribe burn approximately 1,470 acres.

Prescribed burn approximately 1,425 acres

Create early successional habitat, improve forest health and vigor, promote mast-producing species, prescribed burning, wildlife habitat improvements, and maintain, decommission, and authorize roads.

Vegetation management for wildlife habitat and forest health.

Prescribe burn approximately 694 acres.

Close FSR 4331 by placing a gate at milepost 2.31. Establish a parking area at milepost 2.27 for public access to FSR 4331 beyond gate.

TWRA requested permission to construct a handicapped accessible fishing pier The proposed structure will consist of a wooden walkway that would end in a wooden fishing pier that will be attached to concrete piers located on bedrock on the river.

Issue a permit to Monroe County to add a repeater with rack, antenna, transmission lines and backup at an existing Communication Site building and tower on Waucheesi Mountain.

Continuance of Monore County E-911 private moble radio service at the Wauchessi Electronic Site for a new term of 20 years

Install the following at the Waucheesi Communication Tower : new radio system with antennas, microwave system with dish and wave guide, backup power with generator and propane tank, and a HVAC unit for climate control inside the shelter.

This project focuses on vegetation management (commercial thinning) activities designed to maintain a healthy forest. This project also focuses on low intensity burns to develop open woodland conditions, promote upland oak, and shortleaf pine.

The FS proposes to accept a land donation for a total of 5.37 acres. The two parcels of land are located on Unicoi Lakes Road and known as USA Tract K-1608(1.79 ac) and USA Tract K-1610(3.5 ac) Includes survey, mark & placement of boundary monuments.

Prescribe burn approximately 1,334 acres.

This project focuses on enhancing aquatic habitat and riparian conditions in streams, lakes, and rivers on USFS lands on the Unaka and Watauga Ranger Districts of the Cherokee National Forest (CNF).

This project focuses on maintaining and improving ponds and waterholes across the North Zone of the Cherokee National Forest on a regular basis.

Reconstruct and relocate trails damaged in the 2020 spring storms with Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) Funding. Trails include John Muir, Turtletown Falls, Parksville Recreation Area, and Scenic Spur trails.

Project would acquire approximately 280 acres of land near the intersection of Us Highway 64 and TN State Highway 314. The project would incorporate approximately 2.2 miles of existing roads on the parcel into the National Forest System Roads.

Treatments would include the severing of selected stems (chainsaw/manual), application of herbicide, and the use of prescribed fire within the designated unit (212 acres.

Expand the employee parking lot at the Ocoee Ranger station by approximately 135 to the west and add a fence to the existing parking lot on the north side of the ranger station.

TVA is proposing a management agreement with the Ocoee River Outfitters Association, U.S. Forest Service, and the State of Tennessee that would establish partner responsibilities to provide recreational management along the Ocoee River.

Five trail improvements (totaling 4 mi.) to enhance non-motorized trail opportunities. Work will consist of new construction on Rainbow Falls &amp; Seed Orchard Connectors and Dry Pond Lead Bypass, and reroutes on John Muir and Yellow Creek Trails.

Install a water meter near the entrance of recreation residence. Connect water from main line and install water line along centerline of road leading to recreation residence(Approx. 600 ft.) The water line will be placed 18" deep and 12" wide.

The project would provide early successional forest for wildlife, restore forest and wetland comm., release mast-producing trees, improve forest health, provide wildlife habitat components (nest boxes, etc), and manage NFS system and non-system roads

Relocate the northern 1.7 miles of the Old Homestead Trail onto the existing dozer line that parallels the trail.

This project proposes relocation of approximately 0.45 miles of the Appalachian Trail running south from Double Springs, along a decommissioned FS road connecting back with the existing trail.

Prescribe burn approximately 2,020 for hazardous fuels reduction and wildlife habitat creation.

Prescribe burn a maximum of 2,700 acres

Stands are mixed pine/hardwood forest with pockets of almost pure white pine; coordination with AT Community will occur;

low intensity burn; develop open woodland conditions; 92 acres

The CNF will advertise,though a prospectus,to fill 2 vacant outfitter guide, fly-fishing permits.The permits will initially be issued for a 2-yr probationary period and upon reaching a successful operation and permit compliance will be extended 8 yrs

Prescribe burn approximately 3,117 acres.

Create early successional habitat, promote mast-producing species, prescribed burning, wildlife habitat improvements, and maintain, decommission, and authorize roads.

This project focuses on controlling illegal access and rehabilitating disturbed, eroding or compacted areas in Paint Creek.

Area 1 - 41 ac; Area 2 - 47 ac; Area 3 - 18 acres. Variable density thinning; damaged/diseased trees followed by poplar, red maple, scarlet/black oak, white pine. Longer-lived species, such as oaks and hickory, favored.

The USDA Forest Service proposes to acquire 39.1 acres more or less on Brushy Creek within the Hiwassee River watershed. The parcel would be managed under the "7.B- Scenic Corridor and Scenic Viewshed" management prescription.

Applicant is proposing to use NFS land to conduct guided mountain biking, hiking, running, and lake tours. Various designated trailheads and trails proposed based on type of tour. Stand-up paddle board tours would occur on Lake Ocoee via NFSR 33210.

The objectives of this project are to move the stands toward a more open woodland condition; with pockets of mature timber with grassy herbaceous layers, and a mosaic feature of pine/oak regeneration.

This project consists of demolition of the existing trail bridge, including deck, handrails & log stringers, and construction of a replacement bridge in the existing location.

OHVs are illegally driving off NFSR 341 into Conasauga Crk and also creating mud holes and ruts in some dispersed campsites. The CNF plans to place natural barriers such as boulders, trees, or tree stumps to block access to the creek and campsites.

To implement management actions to restore "departed" plant communities found within "dry" forest types to their ecological potential. A variety of activities may be used such as: prescribed fire, herbicides, and mechanical and manual treatments.

The Proposed Action would involve multiple silvicultural treatments within the scope of the Programmatic EA, Restoration of Dry Forest Communities on the South Zone of the Cherokee National Forest.

The 4x4 tour group is requesting a special use permit that would allow them to lead guided jeep/street legal UTV tours in and around Rocky Top, Hall Top and The Gulf.

TDOT has proposed to cut approximately 32 hazard trees along approximately 4,100 feet of Highway 30. TDOT would cut and leave the trees located outside of the ROW and cut and remove the trees that are located within the ROW.

Special use applicant has requested to add approximately 1,300 feet of 25 pair aerial cable along Shaw Mountain Road and to retire 1,250 feet of aerial cable along Seng Garden Road.

TDS Telecom has requested to install approximately 2,000 feet of 25 pair copper cable along Oosterneck Road and to retire 650 feet of 25 pair copper cable on the Cherokee National Forest. This line would be on the new FLEC Oosterneck Road Project.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) proposes to construct a ford on an existing utility access road that crosses a tributary of Loss Creek. Currently, vehicles cannot cross the stream to conduct vegetation maintenance on power line L5144.

TVA proposes to replace existing structure 16 of Apalachia Hydro Plant transmission line with a 10 ft. taller pole in order to raise the conductors further from the ground. An existing access road would be utilized to access the site.

TVA proposes to replace three steel structures in a transmission line. A temporary road is needed to access the utility line ROW and it would be 12 ft. wide by approx. 1,500 ft. long. Trucks & trailers would use the road to transport the materials.

To install a new reliable Fiber Optic line along the Rhododendron Trail for the Tailwater Warning System and to issue a Special Use Permit to TVA for the Tailwater Warning System.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has requested permission to place a 60' X 36' metal equipment shed within the Tellico Hatchery compound. This would be granted through an amendment to the existing TWRA Hatchery permit.

Vegetation management for wildlife habitat and forest health.

This project would allow for the continuation of permitting to conduct fishing outfitting and guiding on the Tellico River, North River, Sycamore Creek, and Citico Creek. This project is located on the Tellico Ranger District.

The bridge would be replaced with a structure similar to the existing bridge. The existing bridge would be removed from the site and disposed of at a suitable location off of the forest. The new bridge would be constructed in the disturbed area.

The project would transfer the management and maintenance responsibilities of the Tellico Intake Bridge from the USDA Forest Service to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The bridge would be maintained to USDA Forest Service Standards.

Project would acquire approximately 3.77 acres adjacent to the Tellico River near Tellico Plains, TN.

The TDA has requested to expand their existing special use permit at the Starr Mountain Electronic Site.

This is a 100 mi. foot race that would utilize National Forest System Roads and Trails, private and state lands, and less than 1 mi of non-system roads and trails. The event would occur 2 days in May with less than 300 participants.

The FS is proposing to exchange an approximately 71-acre tract containing the church, cemetery and picnic pavilion for an approximately 71-acre tract containing a portion of the Unicoi Turnpike and the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail.

Manual TSI slashdown and leave on approximately 5,600 acres of selected stands. Approximately 239 stands would have non-preferred wildlife trees in the 1-12 inch (229 stands, 5,157 ac)or 1-5 inch (10 stands, 482 ac) DBH range cut and left on site.

Volunteer Electric Cooperative proposes burying a powerline in a roadbed that crosses 100 ft. of National Forest System lands. The line will be 7200 volts and buried in a trench 6 inches wide by 36 inches deep.

Amend existing special use permit to add a 7.2 KV buried electric line at Lake Ocoee Inn. The ROW is 260 feet in length and 10 feet wide.

Remove existing overhead line and install an approximately 340 foot underground utility line in same location.

Amend Volunteer Energy Cooperative's existing permit to relocate approximately 1.3 miles of aerial power line. The three existing locations would be abandoned and the new lines will be buried in the ROW of Highway 64(1.6mi) or Oswald Dome Road(.3mi)

Western Carolina University has requested a permit to provide outfitting and guiding services to 6th-8th grade school groups for approximately 2 weeks in April for the next 5 years. Activities would occur at established recreation sites.

Install approximately 910 feet of underground water line from where TSR 133 crosses the Cherokee NF boundary to an existing well-house in the Backbone Rock Rec Area. This is a small portion of a larger water line project in TN and VA.

In order to comply with current FCC regulations FLEC has requested permission to replace their current 2-way radio system located at Waucheesi. The proposed action is to authorize installation of a new pole, microwave dish and line of site clearance.

Reburn approximately 211 acres in the Weaver's Bend-French Broad Field Cluster, N52. Previously burned in February, 2011.

Red spruce trees would be spot planted by hand in an approximately 1,600 ac area. Planting will occur generally above 4,000 feet elevation and in locations with dead or dying hemlock or north facing slopes. Mechanical release would occur as needed.
