The Forest Service receives funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act through the Federal Highway Administration for the following Federal Lands Highway Programs:

  • Federal Lands Transportation Program – For the improvement of transportation infrastructure owned and maintained by the Forest Service and other Federal land management agencies.

  • Federal Lands Planning Program – For the implementation of transportation planning for federal lands and tribal transportation facilities that are consistent with statewide and metropolitan planning organization procedures.

  • Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads – Established to assist federal agencies with the repair or reconstruction of transportation facilities on tribal or federal lands, and other federally owned roads that are open to public travel, which have suffered serious damage by a natural disaster over a wide area or by a catastrophic failure. Examples of these natural disasters include floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, landslides or other severe storms.

Funding from these programs is used to improve the Forest Service transportation system which includes roads, culverts, parking lots, boat ramps, trails, and bridges.
