Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 164,000 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 5,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 37 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Webster Pass Road TH #285

Webster Pass Road provides a great opportunity to enjoy spectacular scenery along the Continental Divide. You will travel through large open alpine terrain as you climb up to the pass. There are also opportunities to connect with other 4WD roads in the area.  

Wee-mee-kute Picnic Site

With paved access, Wee-mee-kute Picnic Area is located near Courtright Reservoir. It provides several picnic sites, a vault toilet, and access to Lake. Drinking water not provided.

Weed Lookout

This early version Aermotor LX-24 lookout, is located on the Sacramento Ranger District, and is the oldest surviving lookout on the Lincoln National Forest.  Erected in 1926, the 7’ X 7’ cab sits on a 48 foot high steel tower that originally had wooden steps (replaced in 1966 with metal steps).  The site also contained a wood framed cabin that was removed in 1978.  Weed Lookout is listed on the…

Weehawken #206

The Weehawken Trail #206 begins at County Road 361 and ends at Weehawken Creek. The trail switchbacks as it climbs through aspen forests and open meadows. There are spectacular views of Hayden Mountain, raising 13,139 feet. It intersects the Alpine Mine Trail #206.1A after approximately 1.3 miles, stay left to continue on the Weehawken Trail. Weeks Brook Trailhead

The trail provides a much less used route up Mt. Kearsage (3,268 ft.) after passing Shingle Pond. The summit has an historic fire tower which can be accessed by the public and offers excellent views.

Lightly gravelled boat launch suitable for backing a trailer.

Weir & Johnson Campground - Grand Valley RD

At 10,500-foot elevation. 11 campsites. Maximum spur length is 33 ft. The campground is a single loop located between the Weir & Johnson and Sackett Reservoirs. The trees are primarily Engelmann spruce. Some sites overlook one or the other reservoir. The mosquitoes are plentiful; repellent is recommended.

Welcome Creek Wilderness

The Welcome Creek Wilderness lies in the Rock Creek drainage about 25 miles east of Missoula, Montana. This 28,135 acre wilderness measures about nine miles by seven miles. Weller Lake TH #1989

Weller Lake trail immediately forks from the parking lot, take the right fork following the stream down valley. Cross the wooden bridge on the left then stay right. The trail follows some switchbacks to another bridge crossing just before the lake.
