This trail passes through lodgepole pine, aspen and lush meadows, providing access into the interior of the Deer Creek Roadless Area. The area is vibrant with wildflowers and a diverse species of wildlife. This area is a primary elk calving ground.

This trailhead requires a 4-wheel drive vehicle to access. It is a large clearing with no trailhead amenities. A seasonal creek is located nearby. It accesses the northern portion of the East Divide Trail #287. This trailhead can provide a loop hike through the Deer Creek Administrative Site by walking back down FSRD 253. Camping and fires are prohibited from approximately 1.3 miles dowstream of the Hwy 32 trailhead to the intersection with Forest Road 27N08, also known as the K-Line.

Deer Creek Trailhead provides access to Deer Creek Tr. No. 158 and Kinsey Creek Tr. No. 319. The trailhead is located at the end of Deer Creek Rd. No. 097, and features a vault toilet and interpretive sign. The site is lightly used but provides access to one of the only <50" OHV trails on the Ketchum Ranger District.

Deer Creek Trailhead North
Deer Creek North Trail follows Deer Creek to the south into the heart of the Ishi Wilderness, where it connects with other trails. The best access is from Ponderosa Way. Due to continuing ecological processes, Ponderosa Way in that area is only accessible by a narrow, high clearance 4x4 vehicle. Please check snow levels before planning your visit.

Deer Creek South Trailhead follows Deer Creek to the south into the heart of the Ishi Wilderness, where it connects with other trails. The best access is from Ponderosa Way (Forest Road 28N29). Deer Creek/Kelcema Lake Ski Route
Lower Deer Creek Road is a popular sledding and snow play area for families with young children. Deer Flat Campground
The Deer Flat Campground is a primitive camp. Since there are no amenities there are no fees.
It is located along the North Fork of Deer Creek which is a small tributary of Deer Creek. The campground is well shaded by lodgepole pine and Douglas-Fir. The site is seldom used except during fall hunting seasons.
Access to the campground is normally not available until June. There is no trash service, please pack it out…

Deer Group Campground
This group campground is located off the Highway 18, Big Bear Blvd. Vehicle access is on a Forest Service road on the south side of Big Bear Lake. There is no potable water available; Please bring your own drinking water. This facility is "Pack it in. Pack it out." Amenities include 5 picnic tables, 1 double pedestal grill, 1 group fire ring and vault toilets. All pets must be leashed.

Deer Haven Campground is designed and constructed primarily to accommodate group organizations (such as family reunions, youth groups, and organizations). The campground is shaded by an open stand of towering aspen trees.
