Over 3 million acres of land located in 22 National Recreation Areas managed by the Forest Service is preserved for recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing and swimming, while highlighting natural, cultural and scenic resources. Visitors who choose to recreate on these public lands find 162,984 miles of trails, over 30,000 recreation sites, over 400,000 miles of streams and 3 million acres of lakes, 127 alpine ski areas, 338,000 heritage sites, and specially designated sites that include 36.7 million acres of designated wilderness areas, 130 wild and scenic rivers, 15 monuments, and one preserve. Chapman Gulch TH #1920

The first 2 miles of this trail are well marked and maintained. The remainder of the trail is not maintained and hard to find. However, this trail is a favorite for those who like bushwhacking and exploring. This trail is not recommended for horse travel due to the condition of the trail.

Chapman Lake #1923

This is a pretty, small mountain lake that is popular for both it's fishing and easy access. The trail follows the mountainside contour and tops off on the bench where the lake sits.

Freeman Mesa Picnic Site

Freeman Mesa Picnic Site is located on the North shores of Ruedi Reservoir. This is a good location to picnic and to go lake fishing.

Fryingpan Lakes TH #1921

Beginning at Nast (Horseshoe Bend), the trail is a fairly easy climb and parallels the Fryingpan River for nine miles until it reaches the lakes. The trail may be shortened by taking road #505 and hiking the remaining four miles. This trail passes in and out of conifer forests and high meadows. There is a stream crossing about 2 1/2 miles before the lakes, so bring extra socks.

Granite Lake TH #1922

The trail begins just before the Fryingpan River Ranch. Please be considerate of private property. The first three miles of the trail follows the Fryingpan River and has a gentle incline. From the junction of Granite Creek to the lakes, the terrain becomes very steep. The lakes are nestled in a secluded cirque of the Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness and provide the opportunity for solitude and beautiful scenery.

Henderson Park TH #1972

The trail goes through pine forests most of the way. It is hard to follow at times. The trail skirts the edge of Henderson Park and from there you can access Carter Creek, Coffe Pot Park, Last Chance Creek Trail and Josephine Lake trails. Last Chance TH #1945

The trail crosses the creek near the beginning and then is an easy walk through meadows most of the way. It ends at the junction with Tellurium Lake trail. From here you can hike to either Tellurium Lake, Josephine Lake or Henderson Park.

Lyle/Morman Lake TH #1919

If you decide to go on this hike, it is one of the most scenic in the Fryingpan River area. The trail goes through acres of broad valleys and scattered trees for the first 1.5 miles to Lyle Lake. About 300 feet above and 1/4 of a mile further than Lyle Lake is a tarn (a small lake) one might want to explore before going on to Mormon Lake. Miller Divide #1930

This trail accesses some of the finest deer and elk habitat in the country. It also provides scenic views of the Fryingpan Valley and Rocky Fork Creek. The first part of the trail is steep but flattens out on top with a short downhill to Rocky Fork Creek. It is hard to follow on top.

Mollie B Campground

The Mollie B Campground has 26 campsites plus a host site near Ruedi Reservoir. There is a boat ramp near the campground at Ruedi Marina. Swimming, boating, fishing, sailboarding on lake.  The Mollie B campground has 26 campsites available to tent and trailers under 32 feet. Rocky Fork Picnic Site

Rocky Fork Picnic Site is at the base of the Ruedi Reservior dam. It is next to the Frying Pan River, making it popular with anglers.
