Projects are proposed actions that are analyzed through the NEPA process (EIS, EA, or CE) that involves analyzing different alternatives to the proposed action, requires public notice and comment, and results in a NEPA decision (ROD, DN, or DM) which is then implemented on the ground.
The Forest Projects below are projects that we are analyzing or have analyzed under the NEPA process. Projects that are "Developing Proposal" or "Under Analysis" may have an opportunity for public collaboration and input on the proposed actions and the analysis being conducted.

The Huron-Manistee National Forests received applications from Frank and Joanne Murray and James Dome for legal access, year-round use and maintenance of an existing undesignated Forest Service road and gate located off Valley Road (FSR4152).
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received an application from Shelley and Kenneth Chamberlain for legal access, Year-round use and maintenance of an existing FDR 4306 aka Wilcox Rd off of McKinley Rd on the Mio Ranger District.
The Huron-Manistee NF received a request to continue to conduct a portion of the Au Sable River Canoe Marathon on dispersed and designated sites along the river from Grayling to Oscoda, MI over the next five years, 2016 - 2020.
The HMNF's received a request from Big Creek Township to install an antenna, associated equipment and improvements at the Luzerne Tower Site located on the Mio Ranger District, NWÂĽNWÂĽ, Section 5, T25N, R1E, Big Ck Twp, Oscoda Cnty, MI.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received an application from Tom Callewaert for legal access, year-round use and maintenance of Forest Service Roads (FSR) 4444 and 4445 across National Forest System lands on the Mio Ranger District.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received a request from Great Lakes Energy (GLE) for continued use, occupancy, and maintenance of existing overhead and buried electric distribution line rights-of-way (ROW) & an upgrade to an overhead line.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received a request from Merit Energy Co. to install additional remediation improvements at the Big Creek 3-16 well site located on the Mio Ranger District, Section 16, T25N, R2E, Big Creek Twp, Oscoda County, MI.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests, received an application from Merit Energy Company (Merit) to make and install improvements to the 6" transmission pipeline located on the Mio Ranger District.
The HMNF's received a request from the Michigan Department of Transportation to install an Environmental Sensor Station in the SW corner of the intersection of M-33 and the southern route of Loon Lake Road (CR 486) on the Mio Ranger District.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received a request from the Mack Lake Homeowners Association to use and maintain an existing brush disposal site located on NFS lands on the Mio Ranger District.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received an application from the Oscoda County Chamber of Commerce to conduct a 5k walk/run event for the next five years (2015-2019) on the Mio Ranger District.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received an application to hold a portion of the Mio First Dam Canoe Race event on the Mio Ranger District, the third weekend of August for the next five years (2014-2018).
The Huron-Manistee National Forests, received a request from the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Detroit, a non-profit organization, for continued use and occupancy of National Forest System lands for an organizational camp on the Mio Ranger District.
The Iosco County Parks and Recreation Commission maintain 2 warming shelters along Snowmobile Trails in Iosco County. The Forest proposes to continue to authorize these existing structures and the maintenance by the terms of a special use permit.
Camp CedarRidge is a childrens camp on private lands that conduct "out of camp" activities at National Forest recreation sites. The Camp also maintains a seasonal canoe storage site for 6 canoes on Cooke Dam Road. Oufitter-Guide Auth.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received an application from the Freel family for legal access, year-round use and maintenance of an existing user-created route across National Forest System lands on the Tawas Ranger District (Huron Shores).
Issue a 20-year private road special use permit for access from National Forest System lands to private lands. The special use would include a gate on Forest Road 2192 to control public motor vehicle use.
The Forest has maintained a limited number of permits for private boat docking of personal boats, based upon historic use of the National Forest System lands. The Forest proposes to reissue permits for existing boat dock facilities.
The Grayling Rotary Club conducts an annual bicycle tour from Grayling to Oscoda, Michigan in conjunction with the Au Sable River International Canoe Marathon. The event is held the Sunday of the marathon.
Issue a 20-year private road special use permit for road access across National Forest System lands on an existing 2-track road to the private lands of Russell & Carol Jones, husband and wife, and Donald Hyslop, tenants in common of private lands.
The Air Force and and Department of Environmental Quality continue to request the installation of monitoring wells on National Forest System lands south of the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base. The Forest proposes to continue to authorize these.
The Forest Service and Oceana County Road Commission will partner to remove a failing bridge on 152nd Avenue on Knutson Creek. The site will be restored using native materials and seeded with native grasses.
Habitat improvement activities in existing upland openings inlcude approximately 107 acres of burning, 84 acres of brushing, 29 acres of mowing, 4 acres of shrub planting, install 1 waterhole and 4 bird houses, and repair damage caused by ATVs.
Prescribed burning two areas which total approximately 40 acres for hazardous fuels reduction and planting a third area (that lies within Kirtland’s warbler critical habitat) which totals approximately 20 acres with jack pine. .
Construct and reconstruct short segments of motorized trails, maintain or replace snowmobile bridge if necessary, clean debris/vegetation around and under bridge to improve creek flow. Thin 67 acres of Red pine stands.
The US Forest Service is proposing to place large woody debris in the form of whole trees anchored to each other and the river bottom in the Au Sable River to provide habitat to fish species. 273 habitat structures are proposed. (3-5 trees per str.)
This project proposes creation of fish structures and stream bank stabilization of up to twenty sites along the Pine River in Alcona County, Michigan. Stabilization of the erosion sites would reduce sediment delivery and improve aquatic habitat.
Improve existing openings to provide food and cover for a variety of wildlife species, reduce encroaching tree saplings, and promote native vegetation.
The purpose and need of this project is to restore aquatic organism passage and channel function by replacing nine road-stream crossings in the Peterson Creek watershed with stream simulation structures.
Treat areas of oak wilt on National Forest System lands. Treatments may include: constructing temporary Root Graft Barriers that sever root grafts between infected and healthy oak trees and cutting live susceptible trees within root grafting area
The goal of this project is to re-authorize expired special uses on National Forest System lands for ROW 2019s related to pipelines, electrical, road and water monitoring well permits.
Treat areas of oak wilt on National Forest System lands. Treatments may include: constructing temporary Root Graft Barriers that sever root grafts between infected and healthy oak trees and cutting live susceptible trees within root grafting area.
The purpose of this project is to address blowdown along the ITC Tippy-Wexford transmission corridor. Treatments may include one or more of the following: cutting/felling, topping and leave trees, disposal of slash, and commercial harvest of timber.
Maintain 93.3 ac of existing wildlife openings through using hand tools, mechanical methods and prescribed fire. Non-native invasive species controlled by hand pulling and/or mechanical means. Plant native plants for pollinators and wildlife.
To install fiber optic cables on GLECs existing overhead electric poles and/or adjacent to current buried electrical lines utilizing the existing electrical right-of-way.
Due the Brittle Fire, a need exists to remove dead trees from the overstory of some jack pine stands and develop Kirtlands warbler breeding habitat. there is a need to increase canopy separation and reduce the chances of crown fire in red pine stands
The proposed activities include the routine maintenance of approximately 182 acres (12 individual sites) of wildlife habitat improvement activities in existing wildlife openings on NFS lands in Oscoda County, Michigan.
Conduct 49 acres of alder hand-cutting and 249 (upland) acres of prescribed burning, mechanical treatment, and seeding of native grasses and wildflowers. The purpose is to provide early successional habitat and other habitat enhancement activities.
Reissue an expired permit to American Natural Resources Pipeline Company(ANR)for the continued use and occupancy of National Forest System (NFS)lands to operate and maintain 22, 24 and 30 inch natural gas pipelines in a 75 foot transmission corridor.
Reissue a special use permit to ATT for the operation and maintenance of fiber optic line. The permit will be issued for a period of 10 years and will cover ~12.39 acres.
Amend an existing special use permit issued to AT&T for the installation of fiber optic along M-20 in Big Prairie Township, Newaygo County. The new line will provide service for a cellular tower being constructed by American Tower Corporation.
Designate approx 27 miles of snowmobile trail/road, and 5 mi of new construction to create trail connectors to food, fuel, services and the communities of Glennie, Oscoda, Hale and South Branch at multiple separate project locations.
The project proposes to harvest approximately 31 acres of beetle-infested and recently killed red pine trees through a timber sale. It would also thin approximately 40 acres of adjacent red pine to reduce stress and prevent additional beetle outbreak
The goal of this project is to install new power poles. The new placement improves ease of servicing powerline issues/service. The general location of this project is a short stretch of Abbe Road south to McKinley Road.
Reroute of a driveway a few hundred feet east and installation of a culvert to access private property. A deteriorated bridge that the landowner formerly used for access will be removed.
Provide a special use permit authorizing the Air Force and contractors to operate a ground water remediation facility involving a water pipeline and an infiltration trench on National Forest System lands within an area of groundwater contamination.
Amec Foster Wheeler %u2013 consultants for the USAF, The United States Air Force (Air Force Civil Engineering Center (AFCEC)) is looking to install up to eight soil borings (four guaranteed and 4 proposed step-out borings.
Segments of Fowler Road in Alcona County, and Davison, Merton & Kunze Roads in Iosco County have project plans to widen and to be maintained as County Roads. The Forest proposes to issue long-term easements for the road segments involved.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received an application for use, occupancy, and maintenance of National Forest System (NFS) lands regarding the Allband Communications Cooperative (Allband) project to install fiber optic cable on the Mio District.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests recently issued a permit for use, occupancy, and maintenance of National Forest System lands regarding the Allband project. The Forest Service proposes to allow additional installation of fiber optic cable.
The Antons have submitted an application for a private road easement across National Forest land to access their property. No other reasonable means of access exist. The area requested is 1,450 feet x 16 feet or .53 acres.
Installation and maintenance of a single groundwater monitoring well near Allen Creek. This well is required by the DEQ to monitor groundwater from their nearby farm on private lands.
Consider whether to issue a private road special use permit that provides long term access across National Forest System lands to Mr. Asher's private property. Use would include use and maintenance of Forest Road. An annual fee would be charged.
Project includes managing timber resources, wildlife habitat management, reducing wildfire potential, managing water control structures, non-native plant species management and maintaining/improving recreational sites.
Stabilize erosion sites along the Au Sable River in Oscoda County. Reduce sedimentation in fish spawning habitat. Provide safe visitor access at designated recreation sites on the river.
Placement of approximately 225 trees per acre along a ten mile stretch of the AuSable River. Multiple trees (5-15) will be used to create debris jams along the river banks to created aquatic habitat. Trees would be anchored in place along the river.
Issue a 30-year term, Forest Supervisor special use authorization to the Alcona County Road Commission for the reconstruction and maintenance of Bamfield Road between the AuSable Vista access road and AuSable Road/snowmobile trail crossing.
Mr. Adam Banninga has submitted an application to use an existing Forest Road (6501), approximately 1,103 feet long and 12 feet wide and also to include new construction on National Forest lands, approximately 650 feet long and 12 feet wide.
Reissue a 20-year permit to Basin Pipeline, LLC for the purpose of maintaining an existing underground sour gas pipeline. Project involves maintaining an 8" pipeline, 50' wide, 132' long, and 48" under and along Forest Trail Road.
Address illegal ORV use off of Basswood Drive and 58th Street by closing the play area to motorized vehicles and restoring the site. Because of the size of the area, the restoration and closure of the area would take place over several years.
Conduct a Mountain Bike and Paddle event on National Forest lands in the Marilla area and on the Manistee River for the next 5 years (2019-2023) on the Cadillac/Manistee Ranger District.
To construct, use and maintain a storage building at the Big M Trailhead, on the Cadillac/Manistee Ranger District. A permit will be issued to the Manistee Ski Council and Shoreline Cycling Club for this project.
This proposal would anchor logs parallel to the bank and in the river to reduce the erosive force of streamflow, along with the planting of native plants along the bank to reduce erosion on the slope and to provide shade to cool the stream.
Manage stands of oak, pine, and existing openings to enhance habitat diversity by managing for areas with unique ecological characteristics, such as prairie, grass, and savanna habitats, for the benefit of rare and endangered plant and animal species
Convert two black locust stands (19 acres total) to upland openings. Treat black locust with a combination of herbicide and firewood cutting. After the trees are removed the openings would be planted and maintained with prescribed fire.
Create ~2000 ac of Kirtland's warbler habitat through prescribed fire, harvest and planting. Thin ~1300 ac of oak and pine forest. Prescribed burn ~2000 ac for fuels reduction & oak regen. Create 100 ac of fuelbreaks & 200 ac wildlife openings.
The objective is to restore aquatic organism passage, water quality, and stream function by removing the Urka Pond dam, filling in the pond with surrounding dredge spoils, and rehabilitating Boswell Creek across the filled-in pond.
Clearcut and plant 583 acres of KW habitat,thin 1779 acres of red pine, prescribe burn 606 acres for fuels reduction,construct 380 acres of fuelbreaks,create 151 acres & maintain 137 acres of wildlife openings, close 1.9 miles of Forest roads
There is an urgent need to salvage the fire damaged or killed trees in this 221 acre stand before sawyer beetles infest the trees and further reduce their timber value.
The Huron-Manistee NF have received an application for year-round use and maintenance of an existing undesignated Forest road to access private inholdings on the Mio Ranger District.
Issue a 20-year special use permit to cross National Forest lands to access private property. The road exists and is ~1/2 mile long and 12' wide. The permittee proposes minor improvements of brushing and spot gravel. No other access is available.
Reissue a special use permit to continue groundwater monitoring at the site of a CSX train derailment in section 10, Merrill Township, Newaygo County in 1978. A new permit will be issued for a term of 20 years.
Cadillac Winter Promotions, an FS partner who grooms snowmobile trails on FS lands, is requesting an addition to their existing storage barn, so they can store all their grooming equipment inside.
250 openings totaling 2,700 acres of wildlife habitat will be improved by; manual/mechanical brushing; felling/girdling encroaching trees; mowing; developing water sources; nesting/roosting boxes; and seeding, planting, and pruning of native plants.
The Callen, Langlois, Bell Association has requested that a permit be issued to authorize the use and maintenance of an existing non-system road to access private properties year-round.
The proposal is to issue a 5-year special use authorization to allow developed sites on both the Baldwin-White Cloud and Cadillac-Manistee Districts to continue to be operated by a concessionaire. The current permit expires at the end of 2017.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received an application from Lynn Carr for legal access, year-round use, and maintenance of an existing, gated road. The road right-of-way is approximately 1,320 feet x 12 feet wide or .36 acres
Reissue a special use permit to Carr Telephone Company for the operation and maintenance of fiber optic line. The permit will be issued for a period of 10 years and will cover ~.32 acres.
Mr. Caswell wishes to use and maintain an existing non-system road to access his private property. Two other nearby property owners are also permitted for use and maintenance of this road.
Close to motorized traffic user-created roads to protect natural resources and reduce sediment routing to Cedar Creek. There are ~15 closures that will be completed using earthern berms and cedar post fences.
Construct a foot path to provide walk-in angler access to Cedar Creek. The trail will be approximately 1,000 feet and will be constructed from the end of FR9844. It will provide a gradual transition from the upland to the stream.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received an application from Jeffrey and Brenda Chadwick for year-round use and occasional maintenance of an existing Forest Service Road (FSR) 4707 on the Huron Shores (Tawas) RD to access their pvt rec property.
Issue a 20-year private road special use permit to the Watson's for access and maintenance of an existing road across National Forest System lands. This road is currently under permit to a neighboring landowner. This permit would be concurrent.
A total of 4,705 acres are proposed. The treatments include: aspen clearcut, fuelbreaks, opening creation/maintenance, jack pine treatments, oak shelterwood/savanna, red/white pine thinning, prescribed burns, and transportation system activities.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests propose to reissue a 30 year permit to Cherry Grove Fire Department for the purpose of maintaining an existing dry hydrant.
Chesapeake Media is proposing to amend their communication site lease to include a heat exchanger and associated concrete pad and ice bridge. The heat exchanger is necessary for their communication equipment.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests have received an application for a year-round use and maintenance (grading, ditches, and brushing) of an existing Forest road (FSR 4396) for access private inholdings on the Mio Ranger District.
Utilize commercial timber sales and non-commercial methods to regenerate approx. 800 acres of aspen. Thin approx. 18 acres of Red Pine, prescribe burn approx. 272 acres oak to control red maple, wildlife opening work, & road construction & closure
The addition of three underground powerlines as well as a switch cabinet at one of the sites on NFS lands. Only one of the areas would require the removal of 3-4 small trees.
Consumer's Energy has a private road special use permit to access one of their facilities that will expire 12/31/14. There is a continued need for access and they have requested a new 20-year permit.
Consumers Energy Company is proposing the installation of an underground electric line and associated equipment to service new customers located on Wickert Road within the Huron National Forest.
To install an underground electrical line on National Forest land in the SE1/4 NE1/4 NE1/4, Section 20, T20N R11W, Dover Township, Lake County, Michigan. The proposal measures approximately 375 feet in length x 12 feet wide or .10 acres
Consumers Energy Company to install an underground electric line to serve a new customer within the Tawas Ranger District. The electric line installation is proposed to be located underground in the center of Forest Road 4694.
Consumers Energy desires a permit amendment allowing them to realign an existing electrical line to follow a larger, paved road. This will increase the reliability of electrical service for nearby businesses and residents.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received an application from Consumers Energy to bury a 4.8 kV, single phase, electrical distribution line along M-65, within the road right-of-way on the Tawas Ranger District.
A proposal to amend the Consumers Energy Permit to include about 1800' of additional buried powerline. The line has been requested by a resident surrounded by NFS lands. The line will be buried 36' north of the centerline of FR5483.
To provide electrical service to Consumers Energy customer. Installation of approximately 1,286 feet of underground electrical line, 34 feet west of centerline, 116th Ave, on National Forest land.
Project would install a new buried electrical distribution line along the Caberfae Highway corridor and a short driveway to connect private property to electrical service. Some brush and tree removal may be needed to install the line via trench.
The Cadillac/Manistee District has received a proposal from Jerri Shuman of Coolwater Campground to re-issue the private road special use permit which authorizes access from Coolwater Campground across National Forest land to the Pine River.
This is a landscape management project that would include vegetative treatments such as oak habitat restoration, red pine thinning, underburning, fuelbreak creation and maintenance, wildlife habitat improvements, trail re-routes, and NNIS abatement.
Issue a 5 year permit for guided hikes and camping trips for young people on the Manistee River Trail and North Country Trail . Fewer than 50 individuals total will visit each year, in groups of no more than 10. Trips will be 1-4 days in length.
Harvest/regenerate approximately 750 Acres of aspen over a 5 year period to improve ruffed grouse habitat. Project also includes re-introduction of fire on 900 acres to reduce Hazardous fuels. Also white pine underplanting, WL openings, Roads
The Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan has applied for a special-use permit to hold a two-day, non-competitive motorcycle (only) trail tour on the designated Horseshoe and Holton Motorcycle trails. The event is proposed for June 2nd and 3rd, 2012.
The Forest has received a request from the Newaygo County Road Commission for a 33’ easement from the centerline of Cypress Avenue to allow for improvement of the existing road. The road would be maintained for passenger vehicle use.
A hike on the North Country National Scenic Hiking Trail and the Manistee River Trail for the next two (2) years (2015-2016) on the Cadillac/Manistee RD.
To allow DCP to extract a 4" pipeline extraction 4 feet underground which extends 2.74 miles on FS lands. Minimal disturbance would occur along the majority of the 10 foot wide right-of-way (ROW). A bulldozer will be used to extract pipe sections.
This CE addresses recreation deferred maintenance in campgrounds, day use sites, and other recreation facilities on the district. Three major projects include Round Lake and Jewell Lake Campgrounds, Iargo Springs, and boat launch improvements.
1. Thin approximately 23 acres of red pine in one stand to enhance timber stand vigor, reduce fuels, and produce timber products.
2. Construct approximately 0.25 miles of temporary road to access harvest stands.
Red and jack pine, aspen, and hardwood harvesting; wildlife habitat improvements, including upland opening maintenance and creation; savanna creation, prescribed burns, and NNIP control; aquatic habitat improvement; and, road system improvements.
Berm and fill drainage ditches on National Forest lands to restore wetland conditions & enhance wetland natural resources adjacent to the AuSable. The project requires the replacement of existing Eagle Run Trail culverts to maintain trail integrity.
The purpose of this project is to restore ecological functions of damaged riparian areas and the adjacent aquatic habitat within rivers, streams, ponds, and lakes of the East Zone of the Forest.
The face of head-cuts would be shaped smooth using handtools and covered with coir fabric mesh staked into place. Eroded pine would be used as a source of material to provide soil stability, grade control, and energy dissipation.
Release of Biological Control insects for the Non-native invasive Emerald Ash Borer and study of their effectiveness in partnership with Northern Research Station
Issuance of a stockpile permit to the Alcona County Road Commission for a 5 year period to temporarily store mineral materials removed and processed from the Emerson Gravel Pit on Kimberlin Road. Minerals are State owned and a Lease is to be issued.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests, received an application from Enbridge Energy (Enbridge) to install an Emergency Flow Restriction Device (EFRD) on their 30 inch crude oil pipeline located on the Mio Ranger District including an electrical hookup.
The Huron-Manistee National Forests received 2014 funding to replace an inadequate culvert on Forest Development Road 2097 serving road access needs to dispersed camping and other National Forest System lands south of Foote Pond on the AuSable River.
this project is to issue a special use permit (SUP) to William & Donna Lorey to allow for general maintenance and use of a segment of Forest Service Road (FSR)4450.
Thin ~1800 acres of red pine and perform ~467 acres of timber stand improvement. Create ~54 acres of oak/pine barrens. Prescribe burn ~163 acres. Maintain ~64 acres of wildlife openings.
Ms. Linda Fekken has submitted an application to use an unclassified Forest Service Road located in the SW1/4, Section 20, T13N R15W, Greenwood Township, Oceana County, Michigan.
The Fishcher-Healy Association wishes to obtain a special use permit for access to two private properties across Forest Service land along an existing, non-MVUM road. This road is the only workable access due to surrounding wetlands.
Currently Forest Road 5043 goes south from Hayes Road into sensitive wetland habitat. Forest users are accessing wetlands at the end of the road to use for mud running. The southernmost part of the road experiences erosion from high water levels.
Issue a 20-year private road permit to the Forest Road 6648B Association to use Forest Road 6648 to access private property. No other reasonable means of access exist.
Replace or remove road stream crossing structures such as bridges or culverts to allow for fish & other aquatic organism to pass under roads & restore natural stream flow.
Thin and regenerate red pine stands Forest-wide outside of wilderness, wild and scenic rivers, research natural areas, experimental forests and old growth to implement the Forest Plan.
Project includes developing breeding habitat for the Kirtlands warbler, managing timber resources, creating and improving early successional habitat, reducing hazardous fuel loading, and suppressing non-native invasive plant population.
Mr. Fryling wishes to construct a driveway to access his private property across approximately 369 feet of Forest Service lands. His neighbors have denied access across their property. He is requesting a 12 foot wide road.
A trail running event on the day prior to an associated mountain bike event. The event would be capped at no more than 200 participants. There would be no ground disturbance.
The proposal is to implement construction of a slash wall via a timber harvest. All sub-merchantable sized material, cull material, and top-wood material would be used to construct a 10x10 foot wall sufficiently dense to exclude deer.
Project activities include aspen and jack pine regeneration, aspen and alder hand cutting, wildlife opening management, red pine treatments including thinning and regeneration, road system activities, erosion control, and recreation improvements.
The project would remove the handpump, plug the well casing using bentonite/neat cement, remove the concrete slab, and cut the casing off 4 feet below grade. These are State of Michigan and USFS requirements.

This project is designed to stabilize eroding river banks, reduce sedimentation, and to improve fish habitat along the Pine River system on National Forest System lands in Alcona County, Michigan.
Improve habitat for Kirtland's warblers by maintaining openings utilizing powered hand tools such as chainsaws and/or brush saws, and/or a tractor with brush hog mower to return these small areas to an open condition. Treat 3000 acres in 7 locations.
Remove the remaining dam structures and pedestrian footbridge, restore natural stream function and install a new footbridge structure that will connect to the existing trail system. Location is the same as the existing footbridge and dam.
Each year, prior to plovers returning from winter habitats, Forest Service biologists would identify small (<0.1-acre patches, not to exceed 10 acres in total surface area per year) areas for cobble placement along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Changing the maintenance levels of seven Level II system roads to Level I or historic roads. A total of 4 miles of Forest Roads would be changed, and .3 miles would be Level I needed for access to private property.
Remove culvert for upstream fish passage in an un-nmaned tributary to the Manistee River near Browns Bayou includes decommission and rehabilitation of a portion of FR 8755. Also, decommission a portion of FR 8988 to protect wildlife habitat.

Build & designate a snowmobile trail approx.20 ft wide and 4700 ft long, on the north side of 8 Mile road from Elk Hwy to Tyndall on FS lands link with County & DNR trail. Decommission a segment of trail through Bear Swamp that is currently unsafe.
Benzie Snowbirds Snowmobile club has proposed a change to the designated snowmobile trail system on NF lands that they maintain through a grant with the MIDNR. Benzie Snowbirds proposes to add .5 miles of trail by using an existing forest road.
There are two projects being analyzed: Reroute of a section of Snowmobile Trail 3 and the MCCCT to eliminate safety and resource concerns and development of a connector trail from Snowmobile Trail 320 to trails along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

The Huron-Manistee National Forests, Tawas Ranger District, received a request from The Iosco County Road Commission, 3939 West M-55, Tawas City, MI 48763 for the 3500 cubic yards of sand from the Plank Road Pit.
The Iosco County Road Commission has requested the continued use of the retired gravel pit near Five Channels Bridge for the stockpile of sand to be used for County road projects. This stockpile of sand was generated from the M65 bridge project.

Northeast Ride Developers has made application with the Forest Service for a special use permit to host two simultaneous road bicycling tour events on portions of FS roads. The first bike event; 39-miles, the second would be 77 miles in length.
The District proposes 1380 acres of wildlife habitat improvement on 13 sites on NFS lands. Proposed activities include: prescribed burning; mechanical treatment of encroaching trees/shrubs; developing water sources; and, establishing native plants.
The objective is to reduce the Phragmites infestation in Tuttle Marsh. Phragmites is a non-native invasive grass species that has strongly established itself in the marsh. Burning Phragmites would reduce seed recruitment and increase native species.
US Geological Service's (USGS)special use permit for an unmanned stream gauge on the Little Muskegon River will expire on 12/31/14. USGS would like to continue to use this location and has requested a new 20-year special use permit.

U.S. Geological Survey has proposed to repurpose the Oceana County Hesperia Well to use for data collection for the Climate Response Network. The well was installed in 1979. It has been sitting unused since 1995.
