FREMONT RIVER DISPERSED

There are several locations along the Fremont River between Johnson Valley Reservoir and Mill Meadow Reservoir for dispersed camping. The areas have hardened parking areas. Tent camping is permitted in meadows, while vehicle and RV camping is permitted in the parking areas.

Fremont River Ranger District

Fish Lake is the big draw on the Fremont River Ranger District, offering anglers a chance to catch MacKinaw, splake, rainbow and yellow perch. French Cabin Creek Recreation Area

This dispersed camping area is located along the west bank of the Cle Elum River north of Cle Elum Lake and is accessed by Forest Service Road 4308.

French Cabin Sno-Park

French Cabin offers 12 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Approximately 25 parking spaces. More information can be found on the Washington State Parks Winter Recreation website.

French Camp Campground

French Camp is located in the Rock Creek area of the White Mountain Ranger District midway between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes off US 395. This large campground has 86 campsites; campers are permitted to stay 14 nights. 

French Camp Picnic Area

The French Camp Picnic Area is located in the Lostine Canyon near the Wild and Scenic Lostine River and Eagle Cap Wilderness area. The site has two small picnic sites and a historic picnic shelter for group use.

French Creek Boat Docks

The French Creek Boat Docks are docks with a ramp located adjacent to French Creek Campground.  There is a small,gravel parking lot that can accommodate about six vehicles. A restroom is located at the campground. When the water is too low to use the boat dock at French Creek, the larger Campbell Creek ramp is a short drive to the south.

French Creek Camping Area

This small developed campground is a quiet area with picnic tables, fire rings, and a vault toilet. This site is popular for rockhounding. Adjacent to the campground is a barren hill with a layer of exposed rocks, including the occasional agate. Please recreate with respect.

Graveled roadbed that drops into the French Gulch Arm of Applegate Lake and provides low-water access for fall and winter use of the Lake. French Gulch Campground

French Gulch Campground provides a good "base camp" for day trips to other areas of the Red River Ranger District, with two campsites and vault toilet.
